Current Covid Etiquette?

I'm feeling rubbish - headache, body aches, runny nose. I have a few LFTs at home and was about to test when my sister called. She said I absolutely shouldn't test because we have DM's birthday dinner tonight and it's better not to know?!?

I know there is no requirement to test, isolate etc but it feels wrong (to me) to go out and about as normal if I do have Covid. I could probably dose myself up and drag myself out this evening. Feel a bit confused.

Also, I have a big day in work tomorrow and need to be in the office. I'd hate to suspect I may have covid and potentially pass it on to people.

Confused! Any thoughts?

Sorry you've tested positive but you've done the right thing

It doesn't matter if it's covid or not, if you're unwell keep the germs at home.

This!

Everyone is running on empty at the moment and very susceptible to any viruses going around.

I know a 40 year old admitted to hospital this week and put on a ventilator no previous conditions. Family have been told to expect the worst. It's still as deadly to some it's just that the vaccine has reduced the number.

Okaaay. I guess all your friends and acquaintances are stupid or very young. I’ve just had covid and had 5 days off work. Had a fever and felt like shit.

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 22/03/2023 17:49

Your sister thinks that giving your mother Covid (or any other respiratory illness) for her birthday is a good thing?

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 22/03/2023 17:50

But you don’t purposely go to a social event knowing you could potentially infect others, particularly your mother!

Rebel2 · 22/03/2023 17:50

@LondonPretty everyone always says not getting on with their lives but despite "hiding away" I am still managing to live
My work is firm, any symptoms or positive tests then they don't want people in
There are people like me (but I WFH) who are immunocompromised and we have a staff member who has a child with cancer
Full sick pay or you work at home

Fedupofchangingusernames · 22/03/2023 17:51

Currently have covid for the 3rd time.

Feel like crap and it's been a week since I first tested positive. Just when I think I'm improving I now feel like I'm going to collapse every time I walk about and have waves of nausea.

My stupid brother was moaning at me for testing saying it's a waste of time and that I should have still gone and seen my parents.

Some people are just ignorant!

Nobody is suggesting hiding away, but saying if you feel unwell you should stay home. You clearly don't have many acquaintances if no one you know has stayed home with covid recently, it's rife again and has been pretty nasty for many. I've just been signed off for another week and I am on day 10 already...

I don't know the official guidance but I have been ill for a fair few days now. GP fobbed me off by saying it's a general virus. I tested ydy and was positive. I had fever of 38.5-39 degrees, my body hurts and I feel horrendous. My children and husband are also positive but they aren't symptomatic. Seeing the variation of how it affects people, we chose not to send our son to school though as I would hate to be responsible for causing somebody else to feel as rotten as I am.

Mojoj · 22/03/2023 17:57

What is with all this testing? If you're ill, don't go out and spread your germs. Equally why bother testing?

Ozgirl75 · 22/03/2023 17:57

My son woke up with a heavy cold where he felt really under the weather. He’s off school with it and I tested him and it’s negative. So now if he’s feeling better tomorrow he’ll go back to school with mild symptoms but if it was covid I’d keep him off for 2-3 days.

I'm testing before I see my elderly parents even though I don't have symptoms. My DF is due to go into hospital for surgery soon & if he caught Covid before he would not be admitted.

Because I needed anti virals

Of course not but you don't go deliberately spreading any illness, if your too ill to go you don't go ....hospitals are still testing for COVID not flu not nourovirus just covid and Mrsa that tells you it's not just like any other illness.

Yep advise for hospital is test 72 hours before then isolate then they test at the door before letting you go in for surgery.
