Any opticians around?

I had glasses made for new prescription but they are making me feel sick and I am being sent from pillar to post - something is wrong.

Can any opticians/optometrist suggest what could be wrong:

I see better (less blurry) but only through a central section, the edges seem to be distorting what I see, are lens maybe too "flat"? Any slight eye or head movement causes a feeling of seasickness.

Unfortunately the glasses were made in a different place than where I had the test and I am stuck in the middle of an argument as each tries to send me back to the other (lesson learnt grrr).

Any experience?

Go back and tell them.

I once had new glasses and I couldn't see out of one lens. Very blurry.
The other lens wasn't very clear.

I went back and they told me it was common to find vision distorted for a couple of weeks and to persevere. I told them that I couldn't read or drive! Just persevere they said.

After another week ( and I ended up using my old glasses) I complained again and asked to be re-tested.
Turned out that my prescription was completely wrong for both lenses.

Yes, been told the same and not impressed.

I suspect my prescription is wrong, are they doing it I wonder to sell more eye tests 🤔the test was pretty rushed I thought.

Are they varifocals?

I’m a Dispensing Optician

When it comes to having glasses made in a different practice to where you had your eye test, then it’s the dispensing practice take responsibility. They are after all the practice which has taken your money.

You say that the edges are distorting - I would be querying things like index of lens, also PD/OC, vertical heights. Would need to compare to any previous glasses.

Also are they single vision or varifocal or occupational? As distortion at edge would be expected with a varifocal, but should have been discussed.

Best advice is to go back to the dispensing practice and ask to the Dispensing Optician

Thank you @arapunzel
No, they are not varifocal, they are just for distance, ie driving, theatre, TV.

Yes, I still have my old lens, can they gauge something from them, I will try.

A lot can be found from old lenses, for the Dispensing Optician in the practice the optical centre of the lens would be worth knowing and comparing to what is in your new lenses. Also can tell the prescription from the lens and compare to new prescription.

When I do dispensing triages in my practice I want to see how the previous glasses sat when worn, looking at the lens to see if there are other differences - index, coatings etc

I have a very high prescription and a few years ago has a new pair of glasses where I could only see clearly if I tilted my chin upwards. I went back to the opticians and they said it was due to the style of frame and the way my lenses were sitting. So I had to get a new pair and have been fine ever since.

I found glasses including correction for astigmatism made me feel dizzy. I usually wear lenses, but glasses were awful.

Thank you all, appreciate your comments. Will go back with old lenses.
