Does anyone else dislike their home?

For whatever reason, the home itself, neighbours, the area etc. is anyone else struggling with the house they live in?

It’s easy to say from the roadside, but I see perfect looking homes that likely contain happy families and long for something like that for myself and my family.

We have always lived in awful properties, had neighbours from hell, dislike of the general area and long for somewhere that does feel like home. Unfortunately due to money and circumstances we are trapped, so I am looking for a rant with others in the same position so we can support each other.

How have you managed your situation to now? What is your plan in order to change your situation?

I fucking hate my house. Everything feels like it's falling apart.

We've just paid off the mortgage so the plan is to start improving things one by one but I want to throw in the towel and move somewhere new. But, the possibility of more problems at a different house puts me off.

I had to accept my house as it was the only option at the time. ExH and I had always lived in military housing. When we separated, I did apply to the council, but was told that me and the DCs weren’t classed as homeless until the military actually evicted us, and even then they may only be able to offer temporary accommodation in a b&b because of the shortage of social housing in the area. I couldn’t stand that kind of uncertainty. The house we live in now was the only one within a reasonable distance of exH that I could afford.
Its not bad - it’s in a nice area, in good proximity to the school and is a new-ish build…but the person who lived here before me had an “interesting” style of home decor, and clearly cut corners with bigger jobs to save money (like the hideously laid kitchen flooring that looks like it was done by a blind cowboy 😂). For the first year or so it really didn’t feel like our home at all.
I have since redecorated the whole place apart from a few little bits here and there that I haven’t got round to yet. The back garden still needs a lot of work (again…previous tenant attempted bigger jobs themselves or had them done on the cheap). I think once I’ve got that done, I’ll be a lot happier with the place.

Yes. My ex left it in a half done mess of DIY. And it's big stuff that I can't afford to fix, and can't do it myself - it needs a new bathroom and kitchen. Needs new windows, gutters etc, garden needs doing, shed is falling down.

It doesn't help that I'm autistic (and possibly adhd) and my executive functioning is completely shit, so it takes me an age to tidy and decorate.

Newish neighbours behind us with two children who clearly hate each other. One screams at the top of her voice to mum to complain about the other all the time.
Hate warm weather now as they're forever in their jacuzzi/spa bath or whatever and they have some sort of tiki bar too.
Very loud, lots of screaming and their music speakers/sound system is also placed outside.

We are looking to move.

I love everything about where I live. I’ve lived in some awful places which probably makes me appreciate where I am now more!

I loved my house until the current neighbours moved in just before Christmas. They are so loud and disrespectful. They have obviously never been taught what an inside voice is, or shown how to shut a door or cupboard without slamming it.

I’m not thrilled with it, but if I get envious of looking at perfect houses I just remind myself that people spend a lot more time, effort and money than I do!

Yes I am unhappy in my rented home but also aware lots of people would give their eye teeth to have a council property

Neighbours really noisy kids screaming everyday (feel sorry for the parents). Can’t find anyone to work on garden for me (need some slabs laying), place needs decorating and kitchen is really old and I can’t muster the enthusiasm
