When would be the right time to redecorate with a puppy

Bit of a random question but when would the right age be that you could think about decorating your home after getting a pup. Our golden retriever mix is 9 months he only stays downstairs so has the front room and dining room and kitchen to explore, our front and back door lead directly into the front /dining room and its all open plan.
The carpet is ruined from the mud he brings in no matter how much I clean it its filthy.
And its puckered up from his zoomies , the walls are marked from where his been up against them plus 8 years of general wear an tear and having 2 kids also its just looking all very worn and tired now.
I'd love to decorate which would include lining the walls with paper also and then painting but as his still being naughty and chewing on the skirting boards and door frames /doors.
Is it just a complete pointless exercise wasting money and our time . Its a huge room also!

He is toilet trained now so those accidents have finished in the house thank christ!

Buy some Grannicks Bitter Apple Spray from Amazon and spray it on doors and skirting boards to stop him chewing - and get him an antler or olive wood toy so he chews that instead of the doors/skirting boards. Zoomies start to get less as they get older but probably about 18 months with a bigger older dog as they mature a bit slower than smaller dogs.

Though if he's a lab he's probably a leaner - you might always have a lean-to patch on the walls I'm afraid.

I think a paintbrush might be easier OP . But if you must use a puppy, probably when he’s the right size to dip into the paint tray. Grin

As soon as he's big enough to hold the roller.

He will love grabbing a loaded paintbrush an interesting stick, really and running through the house with you running after him trying to stop him painting the carpets, the other walls, the sofas, the doors ...
