not sure which news sources are reliable but Paris protests look pretty full on, is that correct?

It’s made me wonder why we’re so passive in the UK. Have we let the bastards grind us down?

I’m in France but not in Paris. They had the tear gas out even in our relatively small town, we’ve had massive traffic jams as roads were blocked, including with fires etc.

I went to the protest 10 days ago and that was good natured and quite fun, today is something else!

Is it really just about pensions or more about the growing authoritarianism? It's so hard to get a real handle on it as these things are very under reported or oddly represented.

Even living here it’s difficult to understand tbh.

7th March was a massive protest and I met loads of people who were protesting for the first time, and there were all age groups there including people who looked to be in their 70s so not affected by the new pension age.

It is officially about pensions but I think cost of living is also part of it - just normal grocery shopping is really expensive now.

Also authoritarianism is def a problem, the government pushes reforms through without a vote in parliament if they think they won’t get a majority. They did this yesterday with the pension reform, that’s why there were protests today, although I’m not sure the people who set fire to council buildings etc were really protesters, they might just have been out to cause trouble.

King Charles visit has been cancelled, just as well.

it's reminding me of a great scene in Victoria, if anyone watched that.

The French were very good with a lot of protests, I don't know what happened with anti lockdown protests there though. I had a post withdrawn for even mentioning those on MN in 2020.

If there's a long build up of having had enough, I don't blame them - same goes for all countries.

Nearly two weeks later...I said it wasn't just about pensions and clearly it isn't, but I think MSM here are still reporting that it is.

I hope everyone is okay.
