I need to fight this

Bloody pneumonia. Two weeks on amoxicillin. All kinds of covonia, linctus and benylin and still coughing my lungs out. Gp is saying the cough is normal for up to 6 weeks. Well normal for him but I cannot sleep, eat, work and live my life. I'm drained. Please tell me what cured you and I will go and nag him forever. Or any tips? Any miraculous tea? Pastilles? Acupuncture? I'm so fed up 😭 it is not Covid. Just some nasty stuff the kids keep bringing from school

Oh and is it possible to get hold of an X-ray? Or should I forget?

Get hold of an x-ray in that you feel you need one? Or a copy of one you've already had? If the latter you can make a request to the hospital where it was done I believe.

Prop the top of your bed up a bit, brick or heavy books unde the legs. Humidifier maybe? There a thing about putting Vicks on the soles of your feet that apparently helps with a cough.

It's rough. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

@ChrisPPancake thank you!
They have never done one.
I have a terrible pain in the ribs. I'm not quite persuaded that's how I'm supposed to feel by the end of day 14 of antibiotics. Also just feel sorry for me. Have never had it and so no one in our family

Did you manage to get some sleep?
I'm really surprised they haven't x-rayed you. If you're not better after 2 weeks of antibiotics you might need stronger/IV ones. I was sent for an x-ray the day I got my antibiotics (mine turned out to be pleurisy not pneumonia). I'd call the GP back and request.

no point in an x-ray for pneumonia, just a risk that gives you no more information. It is more likely to be offered to confirm recovery, once you have recovered.

The cough is long lasting, and normal, and continues long after the infection. If the infection has gone, ask the pharmacist for a cough suppressant. A Cough suppressant, not a linctus or cough medicine

I had pneumonia last year. Two lots of amoxicillin. X ray confirmed pneumonia. A month later still no better really so was admitted to hospital for a couple of days. Further x ray showed lungs much worse and I had intravenous antibiotics. Got better within a week of coming out of hospital. Don't suffer if you feel as bad as at the start

I doubt a pharmacist would sell you a cough suppressant when you have had pneumonia. You need to clear your lungs.
I recommend the following chinese medicine:
Buy lots of fresh root ginger. Peel and chop,
Put a tablespoonful into a mug and fill with boiling water.
Stick a towel over your head and inhale the steam, deeply.
After 4 minutes, remove towel, add some honey to the infusion and drink it.
Look up tapotement and get friend or partner to assist with this along with deep breathing exercises 4 times a day.
Do the ginger tea at least 4 times a day too.

Nimbostratus100 · 22/03/2023 03:21

as I said, cough suppressant is only for if you have recovered from the infection, and still have the reflex cough.

Ginger and honey will do absolutely nothing, obviously

Thank you everyone.
Also is it usual to have pain under your ribs? It reminds me of a muscle pain but very very strong. Painful to touch, painful to move. It is different from the pain in my lungs when I breath. Eg I have a right side pneumonia and the pain is mainly on the left side. So odd

I'd speak with your doc again @MulberryDerry .
Are you managing to rest and take care of yourself?

christmassausages · 22/03/2023 13:07

You might need an inhaler. I was the same. Cough for 3 months after covid and the inhaler has finally cleared the cough. Definitely request one from your GP.
