Gin and tonic/fruit juice/soda water/neat and so on...

My G&T season runs from April to September every year, so it's nearly time once more! I still have a part-used bottle of regular Tanqueray from last year but I'm interested to hear what combinations of gin and mixer others are having. Do you have ice, citrus wedges, cucumber, peppercorns, juniper berries etc? I've found that Aldi's own brand tonic water is good stuff.

I always seem to end up going back to Tanqueray; clearly I'm not adventurous! Always a wedge of lime.

Segment of pink grapefruit is gorgeous in a g&t!

There’s an Indian gin called Stranger & Son that I really like. Otherwise Monkey 47. Hendricks is good with cucumber. I like the pink fevertree tonic or otherwise just good old Schweppes.

In my drinking days (I'm now teetotal) I enjoyed a gin and bitter lemon.

Taciturn · 21/03/2023 20:09

Ratio is important: 1 part gin to three parts tonic (eg 50ml gin, 159ml tonic)

Impatientwino · 21/03/2023 20:09

Hendricks with elderflower tonic water and a slice of cucumber is delicious

Taciturn · 21/03/2023 20:09

Clearly that should say 150ml tonic!!

Lund · 21/03/2023 20:12

Sipsmith is my current gin of choice, fever tree tonic, ice and a squeeze of lime. Delicious and refreshing! My g & t season is all year round...

TickleChops · 21/03/2023 20:16

Silent Pool is my favourite plus ice, tonic and berries

WildRosie · 21/03/2023 20:16

I've never tried gin and bitter lemon. Quite astringent, I expect.

For me it's Gordon's pink gin with loads of ice and tesco tonic water.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 21/03/2023 21:13

Can't beat a grapefruit Malfy with fresh grapefruit and Fevertree Tonic.

ThreeRingCircus · 21/03/2023 22:04

Ooh someone else who does a G&T season! (I love it but it doesn't feel right to drink it in the winter for some reason.)

My choice is:

Mermaid gin from the Isle of Wight distillery
Tesco cans of tonic (just the right size, the little fever tree ones aren't enough for me.... I use two of them!)
Slice of blood orange (I buy them when I see them, slice them up and freeze the slices)

KatyN · 21/03/2023 22:07

@MrsMoastyToasty Gordon's alcohol free gin is amazing. I may have tried them all and it's the most ginny one.

I'm also tee total, but I love a no gin g&t

Solfest spirits rhubarb crumble gin (not as sweet as it sounds but full on rhubarb flavour) with either a plain tonic or ginger ale. Perfect on a summers evening in the garden 😎

MuddlingAlong1234 · 21/03/2023 22:10

Solway not solfest 🙈

SgtCatherineCawood · 21/03/2023 22:15

I always thought I didn't like gin but it turns out it's certain tonics I don't like! Currently enjoying the red berry gin from Aldi with their sugar free tonic and lots of ice (well not actually currently, I am off to bed!). I never knew gin season was a thing!

AinmÁlainn · 21/03/2023 22:20

Method and madness gin is gorgeous. Slice of grapefruit, tonic without artificial sweetener. Ice bullets to stop it diluting.

@Taciturn I was admiring your commitment to the perfect ratio until you corrected it! 😊

OP You also need proper gin glasses if you don't have them - tastes so much better.

whiteonesugar · 21/03/2023 23:16

Gun powder gin, fever tree light tonic and a wedge of something citrusy.

also a fan of the odd elderflower tonic in whatever gin is knocking about

WildRosie · 21/03/2023 23:43

I'm happy with a highball glass. I used to have a plain crystal goblet which was ideal for G&T but I broke it years ago. I don't much care for the goldfish bowls on stems that pubs and bars favour now.
