You get a colour? I’m worried about toxins etc but have no childcare

Don't book a hair appointment if you have to drag the baby with you.

I wouldn’t mind at all if someone had a 3 month old with them and any hairdresser refusing would be breaking the law- breastfeeding mothers must not be refused a service because they have their baby with them.
@btmediabox phone a few hairdressers and tell them your situation, I’m sure some will be very willing to accommodate you.

I think you misunderstand the law- breastfeeding needs to be facilitated and accommodated, but a mother doesn’t actually have an automatic right to hold their baby at all times.

There are certain situations where it’s really not appropriate to be holding a baby for safety reasons.

It could possibly even invalidate a hairdressers insurance to colour a clients hair while they held a baby. The baby isn’t the client.

What if some of the dye transferred? Got in their eyes or mouths? What if they reached out and touched hair straighteners?

It would be different if a mother had asked to feed a baby in the waiting area and was refused.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if there was a baby in the salon. BUT, it would be a different matter if said baby decided to exercise his/her lungs....

Last time I went to the hairdressers there was a mum having her colours done holding her small baby with her 3ish year old son eating a picnic lunch next to her.

Madamecastafiore · 20/03/2023 18:27

I'm Team Women too OP, Team Women who love a relaxing time at the hairdressers sans screaming (predictable 🙄) baby. Just because I have a womb doesn't mean I will turn a blind eye to your child invading my quiet pamper time.

Bunny2607 · 20/03/2023 18:27

I totally disagree. I took my 4month old while i got my hair done including a colour. She was fine. Popped her in the pram, fed her and she slept apart from being fed. She’s now 14months and into everything so wouldn’t take her now but wouldn’t hesitate when she was a baby.

redpinkyellow · 20/03/2023 18:29

My hair appointment was cancelled today and I couldn't rearrange as I don't know when I'll next have childcare for my 3 year old. I was told it was a child friendly salon and I was welcome to bring him! Erm.... no thanks! I want to relax and get my hair done as I'm sure other paying customers would to! Plus for the stylist doing my hair! I didn't even think about the chemicals in the salon! Recipe for disaster given my 3 year old!

NannyGythaOgg · 20/03/2023 18:29

Going totally against the grain here - and it definitely depends on the normal clientele of your hairdresser BUT the ones I go to are full of women that would love the chance to have a snuggle with a baby. If you aren't precious about strangers having a cuddle I think you would be very welcome at a lot of hairdressers. With a mobile child - or one that screams a lot then that's different but a peaceful snuggly baby - I think you would be more than welcome

ImAvingOops · 20/03/2023 18:29

It wouldn't bother me if I was a customer there, but salons can be pretty stinky with all the chemicals and I'd worry about a baby breathing that in.

This.

DPotter · 20/03/2023 18:33

Sorry its a no from me. Your friend may do it, but frankly I think she's out of order. You may say your child is predictable but

  1. I don't know that and will be just waiting for the crying to start, which is uncomfortable
  2. you can't guarantee your child will be quiet, and you can bet your bottom dollar, they'll start crying just at the wrong moment.
queenofthewild · 20/03/2023 18:33

Ask your salon.

My hairdresser has a lovely back room they use for hair and makeup for bridal parties usually. They are happy to use this space for mums and babies also.

Other hairdressers are more open plan and it's not as suitable. It all depends on the layout and policies of the salon.

Why what you gonna do?

Runningonempty01 · 20/03/2023 18:38

My hairdressers is pretty alternative, people bring breastfeeding babies, small dogs, their lunch from the cafe downstairs. I just ask if it's OK.

Exactly this. Even if baby isn't crying, it's likely to be making noises etc. Just don't do it, and don't spout BS like that either, 'Team Women' 🙄😬 Most women are getting some rare downtime at the Hairdresser, so respect that.

HappyAsASandboy · 20/03/2023 19:51

I have taken my babies many times over the years (only ever one baby at once!)

Baby was always quiet, and if they'd pooped (I can't remember whether it ever happened), I'd take them to the loo and change them.

I live in a rural town and our hair dressing salons are normal places. Not sure it'd be the same in a swanky central city salon! But while I was on maternity leave, my babies came with me everywhere.
