How long does it take to get an NHS start date?

I applied for a position through an agency so not directly the nhs themselves but I'm losing patience and my savings are starting to run dry
How much longer should I expect it to take?

Anywhere from 3 weeks to 9 months in my experience. Chase HR.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 20/03/2023 16:19

I'm applying for June starts at

Do you think it's worth contacting the nhs themselves? All contact has been through the agency for now, but I can't afford to wait much longer

Im transferring over from an agency to work directly for NHS, bearing in mind I am already in the role. Since I interviewed and was offered the job it’s been 7 weeks.
I’ve been offered a job elsewhere.

My daughter has just changed her role within herv NHS Trust, simply moving to a different clinical team. It took 3 months for the clearances and checks to be sorted

Usually the hold ups are with HR. Have you done your DBS yet? Is it bank or agency?

It can’t hurt to contact HR even if you are agency, the worst they can say is you need to contact the agency.

Shopper727 · 20/03/2023 16:57

What’s the alternative? You’ll wait longer for another job? It does take such a long time. I got a new nhs job 30 December, started 13 feb so wasn’t too bad just depends how fast references are, and clearance to start I suppose.

I'm in Scotland so I needed a pvg, it's already come back and obviously was clear
It's agency, I have to do 18 weeks with the agency then I can go over to the NHS

The alternative being I run out of money and can't feed my 4 children. I already left my other job as I didn't expect it would take this long.
My partner has been offered a 0 hour contract to start Wednesday but I don't want him to accept it and then I get a phone call with a start date 😫 references were already checked and my pvg has come back clear already

Bit late now as the horse has already bolted. But just in case anyone Google’s and reads this thread…NEVER hand your notice in without a start date for nhs. When you apply direct they tell you this very clearly when they send the job offer.

Tell your partner to start the 0 hour if it gets you through the next few weeks. I shouldn’t imagine he’ll have any loyalty to a company offering him a zero hour contract anyway so it’s easy come easy go

It wasn't just based on the new job, the old job was wrecking my mental health (see my previous posts)
Yeah that's true, just getting frustrated it's taken so long

I'm not sure what that is sorry, it's for the local hospital to me

3 months is normal ime

milkysmum · 21/03/2023 06:53

I'm not sure if it is the same with agency, but normal NHS recruitment generally takes many months. I think my last post took 12 weeks, I have a friend who has been waiting longer.
I would have thought agency would be quicker though, as the whole purpose is they need posts filling urgently.

rattlemehearties · 21/03/2023 06:56

The reply you've posted a screenshot of isn't taking the piss, why do you think that? Unfortunately as other posters say it takes a while. Your DH should definitely start that job in the meantime

Because she said Friday for a confirmed start date, it's now Tuesday with no reply to my email and not answering the phone
If I was told at the start it would take this long I never would've applied

It's ridiculous the amount of time it takes.
I have been waiting weeks to hear when I might start.
They are so inefficient - wouldn't survive in the commercial world
I'm really regretting applying and waiting now.
I have no savings but luckily for me I was able to stay on longer in present role.
