I SWEAR someone is out to get me

I have recently tested positive for Covid, I'm getting over it

I am currently on annual leave from an NHS job where a shift can start a 0600, or finish/start at 2200

The major bus company has declared a strike, meaning for the foreseeable future, there are minimal services to hospitals and no very early or late buses either

Meaning I'm screwed

I can't drive and have little by way of balance so a bike is going to be a tad troublesome

Something tells me I need a new job

I've decided to download Uber

sounds like a nightmare - any chance of paying for a life chare? Might be cheaper - you cant be the only one affected?

Gingernaut · 22/03/2023 08:51

I'm looking into lift shares, but very few people come from the same place

The few people I do know work different shifts and can't drive either

How far is work ? Moped ?

America12 · 22/03/2023 22:48

Electric bike ?
NHS did a scheme for interest free loans I think for bikes.

Discwriter · 22/03/2023 22:52

At least you know the bus isn't out to get you. I'll get my coat.

Nimbostratus100 · 23/03/2023 05:05

what sort of distance is it?

Gingernaut · 24/03/2023 05:52

It's about 6.5 miles

I have walked it in the past, but even that's bollocksed with massive road works around a major motorway junction

Sunday would be a taxi day any way, as the buses didn't run before 9am

6am or 10pm shift changes are another matter - I'd have to get a taxi, maybe two every day and they're expensive.

Ilive in one council area and work in another area and they'd have to cross the boundary to get me

One cab firm will drop me off, but won't collect me, as it's out of area and vice versa.

how awful

what a nightmare

any change you can change job?

or if enough people are suffering from this bus strike, would your employers consider running a minibus?

Gingernaut · 24/03/2023 06:07

Most people drive, there's no cause for a minibus, so I'm scouting for a bike.

There's another ballot, the results of which will be known tomorrow afternoon, so all this worry might be for naught.

fingers crossed for you xx

Strike's off.

Still need a taxi for tomorrow, but normal (04:55) service from Monday!!

I would look at investing in an electric bike. 6.5 miles will be nothing on one. I got a one on a bike to work scheme (it's just a loan) and pay hardly anything for it. Might work out cheaper than the bus long term anyhow.

Gingernaut · 25/03/2023 15:23

I'll think about it, but there are no bike racks round my end of the building, I have nowhere to store it in my house and I am extremely fair weather.

It may not be an investment, so much as a white elephant.

Thats great news! But what a lot of stress you had to go through over this

Gingernaut · 25/03/2023 18:17

@Nimbostratus100 My 'stress' has been nothing compared to the people who have had to travel during the strike, I've been at home.

I pre-booked a taxi and was warned that due to the strike, they can't guarantee the time tomorrow...
