Mother’s Day

I know this is really controversial but I’ve come on here to rant! Single parent.. no excuses! But I took my child to the shop to pick up chocolate and a card from them to me for Mother’s Day.
opened the card from them today- and they’ve practiced their signature all over it- for when they’re a famous football player 🙄they’re old enough to know how to write cards. I’m so disappointed.. am I overreacting?!!

I always find it really weird when people take their children to buy a present for them.

My did his ‘signature’ on his grandparents but he also drew hearts and said he loved her

try not to be annoyed - your child loves you

@Violaviolin maybe the child wants to get something for mum but isn’t old enough to do it by themselves and there isn’t another adult to help them

I think it's sweet, not sure my ds has even written the one my DH bought for him yet. Honestly, I am really not worried about any of it.

Yes you are. it’s sweet.

My birthday was last month and DS bought a card with mum, I love you type words in the front. He got all his class mates to sign it too. There are drawings all over it, a tear and a water mark. It’s one of the best things I’ve been given and I will cherish it.

I don't think I could get too worked up about that - definitely one to keep to embarrass him with when he's older 😁 amazing if he does become a world class footballer; even better if he's an accountant.

Anyway op, just think when he grows up and is a big world famous footballer, your card will be worth a fortune with all those signatures 😁

Does it actually say ‘to mum….’ Inside it?
or is it literally just a card full of his signatures?!
How old is he? I think it’s quite sweet (unless he’s 15 😂).
Eat the chocolate and enjoy the rest of your day.

I love this sort of thing and I'd treasure it. It captures them as they are right now, and that's a wanna be football player 😂

Mine are younger but I always ask what they would like to write in their dad's cards. For his birthday he just got 'photosynthesis' as we had been talking about it that day and DS (3) got a bit obsessed after asking how flowers eat.

Why do you need a present? If the child wants to get you something, they could make you something. Most children wouldn't ask to go and get you something to be honest - it wouldn't cross their minds so that's why I find it strange when parents take their child to get them a present. It seems to be initiated by the parent. Not always though so apologies if that's not the case for you.

I think it’s quite sweet. My DH signed my card on my cat’s behalf by drawing a paw print.

How do you teach a child to consider others and to give gifts if you never have an adult to show them that it's not all about the child getting gifts but also giving?
