Is there standard nhs colour coding?

Dad is currently in a large Scottish hospital. Lots of staff, lots of different colours of tunic. Are these standard or do they vary between places?

So far we’ve worked out that the nurses are in light blue and the HCAs are in green.

No not really in short
Green and white is often OT, blue is often physio but where I am they are in red

KnittingNeedles · 18/03/2023 14:12

I think the physios are in a sort of turquoise. But there about 4 shades of blue, black, maroon, peach, green… would be much easier if it said the job across the back of their tunic like a footballer has their name on a shirt

HCPs in Scotland wear the national uniform. It’s the same in all Scottish hospitals. www.wihb.scot.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/NHS-SCOTLAND-NATIONAL-UNIFORM-BOOKLET.pdf
I wish they’d introduce something similar in English hospitals too…

Pinkywoo · 18/03/2023 14:18

The hospital website should have a section telling you who is in which uniform. My local one calls it "who's who?".

MandUs · 18/03/2023 14:19

If you are in Scotland, we have national uniforms. And the light blue ones are not nurses, they are health care assistants. Green are domestics that do food and cleaning. Cornflower blue is nurses. Navy blue are charge nurses. Turquoise are physio/OT and radiography.

That’s brilliant @JennieTheZebra thanjs so much.

That’s the guide for Scottish hospitals. There’s usually posters up around the hospitals.

Light blue tunic = HCA
Royal Blue? Tunic = Nurses
Navy blue = ward sister/manager
Green = domestics
Light blue polo shirts= physio
Maroon = Lead nurse

MandUs · 18/03/2023 14:23

And grey = student nurses

Iluvfriends · 18/03/2023 14:23

Green tunics = domestics
Green polo = porters

Restingbitchface01 · 18/03/2023 14:25

Green Blouses/Shirts - Admin (in Scotland)

MandUs · 18/03/2023 14:26

The porters uniform colour can actually vary because they aren't NHS employed but Serco so they don't have a national uniform.

KnittingNeedles · 18/03/2023 14:42

I think the porters here are the ones in black. Haven’t seen any posters, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
