Does anyone use the prepaid debit card facility with Go Henry for a 6yo? Where can you purchase from?

Hipper jar is free

Does Hyperjar have an app for the kids like GoHenry does? For us that’s been most helpful for making sure they understand the value of money/what they have/what they’re saving/spending etc…. Think DD is about ready to move to bank account now but it’s been great for them for now. And helpful for me if I need to send them to the shops 🤣

We've got a Revolut card for our 7 & 12 year old. Whenever they get bday money I just transfer from my account to theirs and it's linked to mine and my partners accounts. Very simple and boys seem happy. We had a go Henry and never used it. Think the money they wanted monthly just made it not worth it. I like my Revolut card as I forget I have it and start little pots of money for specific things and don't spend it.

Mine have had GoHenry cards since they were 6 and I think they are great
They liked the chores list where we set chores for certain amounts and when they are ticked off as done the money gets paid to them. We used to have a Saturday chore list and then they were allowed to go to the shop and spend up to half of the chore money if they wanted to. Made them realise that money doesn’t always go that far!
They also liked to save up for things and see their balance grow through pocket money and chores. Helped them realise the value of money a bit more as they could see that they were further away from getting what they were saving for if they spent it
I like that you can put limits on what they can spend in a transaction/week and can see where they spend their money

My 6 year old uses HyperJar.

Yes hyperjar has a kids app too. But I messed up setting it up, mightve been me with tech tbh.

These comments are hilarious, people clutching their pearls over a child having a debit card!

My son is 6 in a few months and we are planning to get him one. I like the app, that we can set chores and he can get paid for them. I never have cash, and he knows that my debit card is how I pay for items.

Go for it.

Ds has a go Henry, he's had it since he was 8. It's been great for him, he lifts cash out, uses contactless, it's been good for him. The app automatically saves £2 per week and he can do tasks to get his full amount of pocket money. He can also do money related tasks that earn him 50p per completed task. That's on top of his chores if he wants extra.

He's also set himself up a stocks and shares isa through the app too.

I have one fpr my 6-year-old. He can only use it with us (on amd offline). I think it is important to teach them the value of cash, but also using cards sensibly. I lnow so many friends who go into debt once they got to 18 and could start swiping away.

FusionChefGeoff · 18/03/2023 22:18

We use Rooster Money - it's not real money just a tracker app but gives DC a running total and we just take it out of their pocket money when we buy stuff they want.

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/03/2023 22:21

We had them for Dts for a while. Cancelled them and waited until they could get a proper account at 11. The fees are too high.

bedtimestories · 18/03/2023 23:21

Our kids have a current account each that's in one of names, when they reach 12 they get their own. Avoids fees. We teach them about sugar and energy drinks etc
