Protein!

People bang on about getting enough protein and since becoming a vegetarian I am actually worried if I'm not getting enough.

Some days are fine as I cook with lentils and beans etc but some days I'm not so sure.

Is there anything easy to slip into my diet. I did wonder about eating meat once a week but the thought makes me want to be sick

If you use something like nutracheck it will track how much you have had. If you eat normally for a week then see if you are low are take it from there. You might find you are getting more than you think. 0.8-1g protein per kg body weight.

You could try logging your food on My Fitness Pal, or similar, that will tell you how much protein you are getting.

Remember a lot of people are feeling a bit run down at the moment, running on empty after winter has used up all our resources.

I forgot to mention earlier, nutritional yeast is fantastic for protein. 50g per 100g. You can add it to so many things - I always sprinkle it on pasta, soup, beans... it's also lovely mixed into mashed potato.

Another vote for nutritional yeast (nooch), here - making pizzas, I sprinkle it (dredge, more likely) on a rich tomato sauce before adding mushroom/tomatoes, etc. No need for cheese.
Although I supplement with B12, I always get the nooch with B12 added.

I am vegetarian and I aim for 70-80g of protein in a day. But it takes an effort, I ensure I get 20-30g in each meal. Doesn't happen on its own following a varied diet.

a lot of people are feeling a bit run down at the moment, running on empty after winter has used up all our resources.

Particularly vitamin D. You get most of that from sunlight, not diet, and in the UK can't make any significant amount between October and April.

So if you are feeling run down, start with a vitamin D supplement. Then look at whether you're eating enough iron and B vitamins. And selenium. Micronutrients are far more likely to be out of balance than macro ones.

I'm vegan, and I get my protein advice here - check out the transcript button and all the associated 5 minute videos on protein:

This is an interesting read, thank you for sharing.

My daughter is vegetarian. I give her quorn fillets a couple of times a week. They're ok (but apparently highly processed!??)
Also, for 'dessert' (not very exciting) I mix a small 100 gram pot of strawberry protein yoghurt with 100 grams of quark or kefir and serve with sliced strawberries.
