Snacks in the house

Following on from a snack thread I just saw... What are your food habits like in terms of having snacks/nice treats in the house, in correlation to how you grew up?

I'll obviously go first - we RARELY had sweet treats or crisps in the house, and whenever we did they were gone pretty instantly (only 2 of us kids), and I was always jealous of my friends who had a cupboard/box dedicated to sweet treats. Those friends never batted an eyelid at it, it was normal to them and so they never binged and never had an unhealthy relationship to food.

But, it was so rare for me and my sibling that I grew up with a bad relationship with food. I'm sure my mum was trying to help us but restricting it so much made it so desirable whereas I look at my friends who didn't have it restricted and they don't binge eat as adults or anything.

V interesting psychology behind it all, intrigued to hear other peoples experiences

Also, it probably didn't help that back in those days, diet culture was big so I grew up around women in my family constantly calorie counting or drinking shakes instead of healthy, nutritious meals.

And I guess never exposed to healthy exercise (i.e. exercising to feel good and get stronger, instead exercising to counteract any overindulging)

I was a child of the 70s and big supermarkets, multipacks of chocs/crisps/biscuits etc weren't really a 'thing', although by the 80s they were starting to become a thing, and some of my friends had lots of nice snacks in their houses, whereas we'd have mostly plain-ish biscuits and occasionally nice chocolate ones at Christmas.

I buy snacks now and my kids always had them but we can all take them or leave them, and none of us have ever been overweight, or had a poor relationship with food.
