Neighbours music

So help me out here please. My neighbour has music on LOUD, I have gone round approx 4 times over the past couple of months asking her and reminding her kindly to turn it down, only at night, as kid sleep in adjoining bedroom (think terraced house) Every time I go and ask, I get I need it for my mental health, etc...which I've explained I understand, however my child needs sleep! She does turn it down, and says sorry...but again within the next couple of days it's the same. I'm not asking her to turn it off, just down so it does not thump, thump in child's room. What do I do next, I feel like I'm a being a huge pain in the arse and don't know if IABU?

Any advice will be most welcome!

Ask her if she can use headphones, earbuds?
You can call your local council. I had to download an App, press record when the noise got loud ( through the night, not a baby/child) and it sent the decibel level, location and time to (I think) Environmental Health dept. They wrote to neighbour, pointing out steps they could take. The noise stopped.

We contacted the council, they took a log of the noise (diary-type thing) and wrote to both the noise- maker and his landlord. He was gone pdq.

We'd contacted the police on numerous occasions but one call to the council's environmental health department sorted it.

Suggested headphones to her, but she can't afford them! I'm really trying to avoid the local authority, but I know realistically that's my next step. I just don't want to be a pain, and wish she could understand how hard it be living next door to it. Realistically how many more attempts can I make to explain she needs to turn it down!

Go around every single time and also keep a diary. I really feel for you. This sounds horrendous

Starshine08 · 17/03/2023 22:18

It really is, we share every wall apart from the two downstairs, and even then, there are days where I can hear it thumping through there! How loud does it need to be. tonight I had to involve another neighbour to call her, as she didn't answer the door, which she did and within minutes it was down. So she does listen but it's the amount of times I have to do this.

I think you're going to have to involve the council if you're constantly having to tell her. Can you invite her round so she can hear how loud it is?

Starshine08 · 17/03/2023 22:23

That's a good idea but even think she'll just slip into old habits. I've even taken the time to explain why....made and effort...been kind...but it's like I'm just not getting through.

I would buy her a nice set of headphones, but that's me. I would then go straight to environmental health if this bullshit continues.

Starshine08 · 17/03/2023 22:33

I've even suggested this, but got told headphones don't work for me!

Definitely document/report to council etc. and keep asking her to turn down! If child is getting disturbed by noise, can you play white noise in their room to drown out music for them?

Greenfairydust · 17/03/2023 22:53

You have been too nice and she knows exactly what she is doing. She chooses to be annoying.

Involve your local council.

Starshine08 · 17/03/2023 22:57

I guess she does chose to, like we all know when I keep it down. I've tried the white noise too unfortunately it does not work. I'll be looking on council website, I guess I just didn't want to ruin a relationship with neighbour. She lives in a HA property, meaning a complaint would not look good in her file!

I've tried I really have.
