My dear friend is due in September and has asked me to help her find the most useful postpartum tips, products and activities for her recovery. Things like belly wraps/binders, gentle exercise advice and so on.

I've never had a baby but I do hang out on Mumsnet a lot - please help me get a list together!

Nothing to add but here for the tips. I’m having twins in a couple of weeks

Hmmm…this reads like lazy journalism to me.

If your breast feeding eat bran flakes for breakfast, stops you having poops that feel.like lumps of glass!

keep Witch hazel in the fridge and then put it on your pad, it soothes down below. Also buy Giant pads not normal sanitary pads.

Lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils in a bath really help aid healing post delivery.

A nice cold pad!

and shower every day. It makes you feel better and gives you a few minutes off.

My tip is a book called The First Forty Days by Heng Ou. It was recommended to me by my doula and it’s full of wonderful nourishing recipes, wisdom and self care. I passed my copy to a friend and it’s still being passed on in our mama circle as it’s so warm and nurturing.

Tena Lady pants for lochia, with cheap (non-winged) maternity pads stuck in as well. Would change the pads as needed, and the pants once a day or if too bloodied. They stopped any leakage. The pads did destroy the pants to some extent, but they did usually last a day.

Once I'd got through one pack of pants I was fine with winged pads in normal underwear.

Have my newborn here.

Pleased to have lots of Cook meals in the freezer.

A handy basket or tray etc to keep by the bed for snacks and drinks for night feeds.

ThePriceOfSugar · 17/03/2023 19:51

Thank you for the ideas! Particularly interested in the Heng Ou book, I'll check it out.

My friend is very clinical and medical about the whole experience and welcomes a little woo-woo from me for balance.

Take in all the lazy cuddle days
When times get tough remember it won't be forever
Lots of walking in the spring / summer
Be kind to herself

Softsoftsleep · 17/03/2023 19:54

I had 3 pretty rough deliveries and found I turned a real corner at 3 weeks, whether it be from an episiotomy or c section stitches healing. Keep on top of pain medication.

ThePriceOfSugar · 17/03/2023 21:50

Also lmao @LeafHunter I work in third party risk management for the life sciences and Healthcare industry 😭 why are you out here hunting me

Avoid orange juice if breastfeeding. Lavender oil in the bath is very soothing. Try and limit visitors to the afternoons. Rest as much as possible. Take up offers of help.

Smogtopia · 17/03/2023 22:32

Why avoid orange juice if bf?

amispeakingintongues · 17/03/2023 22:55

Epsom salts in your bath heals any tears faster and keeps infection away

weegiemum · 18/03/2023 00:00

Shallow baths with Dead Sea salts in them. Was given by a friend after dd1, stocked up with ds and dd2! Eased the tears, including 3rd degree with dd2!
