Family holiday to Thailand?

Also posted in the "holiday" section but I thought there may be more traffic here...

I'm dreaming of a holiday to (maybe) Thailand in October. Me DH and DSs 12 and 14.
DH and went years ago as backpackers, but it's going to be quite a different experience with kids I'm sure! We stayed in basic beach huts and ate street food. It was bliss.

Can anybody recommend a nice resort / hotel that is safe and suitable for kids but not too posh so not too expensive? Ideally close to the beach and with a pool. We'd only have 2 weeks so I think we need to stay put in one place rather than travelling around.

I too was going to suggest Phuket island same as the poster above! Pre-covid, they had international flights direct there. Not sure about now though. I would avoid staying in Patong beach. Far too busy, noisy, touristy, girlie bars etc. Some of the coastal resorts down the coast (Karon being the one mentioned above), Kata and a few others are quieter and more family friendly.

Although Phuket has an international airport, don't discount a few days in Bangkok then an internal flight. The temples, museums, markets etc are fascinating and you will really appreciate a quite beach resort afterwards. My husband could spend hours in Pantip plaza- a multistorey electronics/computer/gaming mall. Next door is Platinum Fashion mall which was great value for clothes/shoes/accessories (discounts for buying 3 items in the shop). Again- pre covid, you could get reasonably value internal flights from BKK- HKT (Phuket) with Air Asia, Air Nok and Bangkok Airways.

I cant recommend an actual resort, because things change so much, but obviously read tripadvisor and ask questions on the Thailand forum.
