I want to see a GP in person and apparently my surgery will do anything to avoid this.... Does anyone know of any conditions/symptoms that will always get you straight to a face to face appointment? Any GP reception staff here who can advise?

Don't make up something which you don't have hoping for a f2f appointment. Receptionists don't have the authority to give f2f appointments if the GPs have decided on telephone triage in the first instance.

In my surgery patients ring in, I take a message of a brief idea what they want to speak to the GP about, the GP triages and decides whether the problem can be resolved over the phone or the GPs themselves give an appointment for a f2f consultation.

Apparently….
Why don’t you explain to the trained professional when you speak to them why you feel that you would like a face to face appointment.
It’s often far more efficient to do telephone consultations to save time getting people in and out of the waiting rooms , cleaning the space etc. Doctors can request investigations before the face to face appointment. All sorts of reasons . Why would you lie?
It’s not a good way to start a consultation which is based on trust and honesty…
