Possibly the most dull thread ever. What can I do about my squashed sofa cushions?

Spent a vast sum (for us) and waited ages to take delivery in a former life 6 years ago on a corner sofa online from John Lewis
Did not really realise that the cushions are fixed
This means it's hard to clean but also that the cushions are now quite squashed
The fave spot for everyone to sit is at the corner so this bit in particular is quite flat and you can feel the frame beneath sometimes
What can I do about it?
The frame is still guaranteed but the rest is not

Is there any zip access on the cushions to add more stuffing?

Santaslittlehelper83 · 16/03/2023 09:38

Hmm...we had a John lewis sofa like this and ended up replacing it (it got stained as well). I'm not sure what you could do except getting it re upholstered, but that will cost you as much as flying to space! Hopefully someone has a solution!

We've got the exact same problem, just flat in the corner fixed cushion too

I am wondering if there is some kind of foam.
There doesn't seem to be any zip access
I can't work out how it was even covered tbh

all i can think of is get a secondary cushion to put on top to counteract the sinkage somehow? not ideal.

Santaslittlehelper83 · 16/03/2023 13:46

Just thought...could you cut the fabric, stuff with stuffing, restitch then cover with a throw to hide the stitching??

bakermummy21 · 16/03/2023 17:37

I think if we avoided sitting on that bit it might bounce back but its the favourite seat here too

Maybe we just need to give it a rest
I
May pull it all out and look into how to stuff it more. I can feel the frame beneath.

I'd ring JL and ask what they suggest, they must have tested it in someway
Worth a shot at least as I bet it wasn't cheap

Get an upholsterer to look at it. We do this all the time at work (in the trade) from budget made sofas (I don't mean that rudely). You turn them upside down, remove the hessian/cloth underneath, remove the springs/spring unit then replace all the padding. Then you put it all back in again. The padding/replacement springs if needed aren't expensive but it's labour intensive and we only encourage doing it if the sofa is really worth it.

And just for reference, no one worthy of the title of upholsterer would do this on site, we're asked this all the time! It's very messy.

Thanks @Badger1970 I know you didn't mean it rudely - I had an amazing expensive sofa (inherited) and I do know the difference -
hmm I don't know how much spring there is tbh- that could be half of the problem... what sort of money are we talking for this? It doesn't sound cheap?

It depends on the size and structure but as a rough guide we charge around £300 for a 2 seater and £400 for a 3 seater. It's very labour intensive.
