What are your tips for overcoming menopause 3am night terrors?

Bloody hell, I can have some awful nights nowadays and then I feel drained and wobbly all the following day. Last night I spent ages doing breathing exercises to calm myself down but that meant I couldn't sleep for 2hrs. How can you best avoid this?

Sounds awful!!
Are you on HRT?
if you are, are you having too much oestrogen? It can cause anxiety.
Or if you apply oestrogen as a daily gel, could you change when you apply it? ie, first thing in the morning rather than just before bed as some people say it interferes with sleep.

I haven't had this sounds horrible so first of all hug from me xx

i suspect I am in peri menopause now. Before my period showed up I would just end up having massive emotional reactions to really minor things (e.g. calling my sister in hysterical tears because my dd fell out of bed?!?🤦‍♀️).

I spoke to the private gp from work and she suggested vitamin B6 supplements and calcium supplements. I take those after dinner and that seems to have stopped. Don't know if you might need something stronger but that worked for me x

i didn't want to take HRT because the Pill really messed me up in my younger years.

What i did was have layers of bedclothes so i could regulate my temperature quickly. And i got a kindle paperwhite and loaded it with things like Terry Pratchett and Bertie Wooster books. You're still knackered the next day, but it helps take your mind off the terrors.

I found that embracing the sleepless 2 hours or so (which i still get although I'm pretty sure I'm nearly out of menopause now) has helped my mental health, although not the tiredness.

Get yourself checked over, health wise if you can.

That was me last night. DH snoring away, I moved to spare room with my kindle. Think I eventually got to sleep at 3am.😕 Don't know what more to do, but trying to just go with it. Luckily WFH and have nice boss.

HRT totally eliminated my perimenopausal insomnia and anxiety.

HRT, made a huge difference.

My night wakings decreased massively with a weighted blanket. Cotton only. It took a week to get used to it, but I've definitely improved. I dont have night terrors but I'm saying get one because they make you feel secure and that might work. Doesnt have to cost a fortune. You can just try a cheap one and see if it works.

I'm not on any HRT at all because I'm not a suitable candidate.

Who told you that? A GP? If so, get proper advice from someone who actually knows what they're talking about if you haven't already. Go to a private Peri/menopause clinic. I wouldn't take the word of a GP regarding any scope of peri-menopause or menopause.

Oh love, I'm with you. I have alternate nights of the 2am, 3am or 4am wakes and I cannot get back to sleep afterwards for at least a couple of hours.

I have what I call the 'wobbles' when I worry about anything and everything. Then I'm ready to go back to sleep again by about 6/7am. It's a bloody nightmare! And this has been going on for ay least 2 years.

I've now been on oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets (mornings) for about 6 months. Made no difference whatsoever. I'm so tired!
