We’re going away next week ( UK self catering ) and I need some inspiration for some nice meals.

Any meal I havn't had to cook myself to be honest.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/03/2023 14:21

Sorry, too cynical.
Are these meals to cook or buy in?

WashableVelvet · 16/03/2023 14:24

Self catering often has under equipped itches, and no spices and herbs etc. so although I enjoy cooking something fancy if I have a rare free day at home, on a SC holiday a ‘treat’ meal is definitely something that needs almost no cooking - steak and salad, bread and cheese, pasta and prawns?

Something quick and easy like fajitas. You could even get a meal kit to make it even easier.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/03/2023 14:31

M&S is always a treat for me.

I'd probably go in the next couple of days and have a look at the Mother's Day meal deal. Or the Gastro Pub one. Then nice pizza - the oval ones. One of my favourite treaty no effort meal is Spanish garlic prawns, so just some prawns fried with garlic, olive oil, paprika and chilli, with nice bread.

cocksstrideintheevening · 16/03/2023 14:38

Are you cooking?

ScottBakula · 16/03/2023 14:39

@WashableVelvet what do your itches normally come equipped with ! ? 😂😂

@NothankyouNigel
Are you thinking about what you can cook easily or dinning out ?
Personally my answer is the same either way , a large steak , jacket spud , salad , pepper corn sauce and a glass ( or 3 ) of red wine .

silverycurtains · 16/03/2023 14:48

When we go away we take a Raclette. Great fun as you can load them up with meat/veggie options/different cheeses etc. Ours was about £30 and worth every penny.

furryfrontbottom · 16/03/2023 14:52

Steak. With fries, salad and a robust red wine.

Lyricallie · 16/03/2023 14:54

Self catering I like to do super fancy macaroni and cheese with different types of cheese and cream. Incredibly unhealthy and amazing.

Or one of the nice fancy pizzas from Lidl!

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 16/03/2023 14:55

Cheese, crackers, pate', chutney aka charcuterie board with all the trimmings. I'm a big fan of picky bits and wine :)

No I get your first point!!
Either actually - to cook ( but not too faffy) or will be passing an M&S so could get ready made.

I usually try to eat non- processed and low carb day to day - but on holiday? Anything goes.

One night - baked camembert, crusty bread, olives, wine, Parma ham, crisps and dips

One night - steak, ready doen dauphinpise pots, asparagus, wine

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 16/03/2023 17:56

Steak and chips.

Shmithecat2 · 16/03/2023 17:56

M&S Gastro range, or Cook range ready meals. Naice picky bits and cheeses. Anything that only needs unwrapping and or/heating to eat basically.

Giggorata · 16/03/2023 17:58

I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time cooking something elaborate in an unfamiliar possibly under equipped kitchen, so I'd go for pasta and stir in buttery garlic mushrooms with fresh if poss pesto, mozzarella, chopped up sun dried tomatoes and antipasto roast peppers from a jar, olives, and ripped up spinach.

JumbleSailor · 16/03/2023 17:59

Takeaway

NothankyouNigel · 16/03/2023 18:01

Oooh thanks everyone 😋Mouths watering a bit now! Loving baked Camembert, crusty bread, prawns, picky bits etc. I thought I might get a nice lasagne for one night too.

it goes without saying a robust red will feature.

Greenvelvetdress · 16/03/2023 18:07

Mhmm I'd say like a chicken and ham pie or something as well, you could make before and take with you!

DelphiniumBlue · 16/03/2023 18:24

I like the frozen salmon en croute from Aldi, under a fiver for 4 substantial portions. You can serve with oven chips and something easy like mangetout.

Me too,,can I come?

NothankyouNigel · 16/03/2023 18:28

Mmm a nice pie. I think we may end up having a full on carb-fest for the week.

  1. pie n mash
  2. Camembert, dips, crusty bread, picnic style
  3. lasagne and salad 4)? Maybe a takeaway

My other half doesn’t do steak but maybe something like grilled chicken with chips/ baked spud if we decide against takeaway.

Now onto dessert. I’ve a sudden craving for profiteroles but may need to rein it in a bit so I don’t come back a full dress size bigger! 😁
