Short UK break with teenagers (no car)

I could really use some help! I'd like to take 14 year old ds on a short UK break but I don't drive! So I'd like somewhere that I can easily get around that is going to be entertaining to a teenager. We do enjoy countryside walks but obviously needs to be somewhere with public transport. Any ideas? We are in London but happy to travel a bit.

Thanks

I’d suggest Cardiff. Stay at the novotel it has a great swimming pool and sauna.

Dont bother staying on the Isle of Wight - stay in Portsmouth! Theres so much to do in Portsmouth at the Naval Dockyard including my favourite a boat tour of the dockyard, plus Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth museum and best of all a walk along the seafront to Southsea where there is a beach, pier, lake and other stuff that will keep them amused. Whatsmore you can use Portsmouth as a base to catch the train to Southampton and Chichester and also to the countryside if you want a walk in the South downs. Of course a one day trip across to the Isle of Wight might be nice too - use the Hovercraft from Southsea for a unique transport experience. You and they will love it!

Otherwise as people have said - citybreaks to Bath, Canterbury, Brighton, Oxford, York, even Birmingham and other big cities - Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester etc are all easily reached by train

Brighton I second, has good local public transport, so accessible to nearby towns and countryside (Devils Dyke an example).
