Airport lounges with children

My children are 1 (nearly 2) and 4 years old. I’m thinking of booking the airport lounge for our upcoming holiday, just not sure if it will be worth it. I can get it for £79 for all four of us, just not sure we’d spend that on food and drink out of the lounge.

If you’ve been in one with children, what were the pros and cons of it?

Thanks

If you do go, don't be one of those people you see so often in restaurants / pubs etc letting their kids sit on YouTube without headphones.
Lounges are for relaxing, and it's not really relaxing listening to Bluey blaring out while you're trying to relax before a flight! 😅

Not saying it's something you'd do - but you'd think headphones hadn't been invented these days with the amount of throbbers who let their kids blast their nonsense around an otherwise quiet environment.

The airport lounges you have to pay for are carnage !
Crammed full of rowdy groups getting as much free booze down their necks as they can. You may as well be in Wetherspoons.

If you can book business class, or you are a frequent flyer then you can be invited into the business lounge, a whole different experience, that’s the only airport lounge worth having.

I go in lounges about 16 times a year and have never encountered noisy groups. It’s mainly couples having a small meal and a drink, alcohol or coffee etc,

We did one recently that has a play area. Well worth it, especially since it was free with an amex priority pass.

We don’t use them when departing from UK airports - facilities are generally good and can have a decent meal at restaurant for fraction of the price.

Absolutely brilliant for long stopovers and foreign airports without great seating

We use lounges and we travel fairly often with our 4 year old boy, but we never pay as we either travel business class or we use the lounges whose access is free with our credit cards.
Pro:

  • no or very limited queues compare to coffee shops/restaurants outside
  • easy access to toilets
  • no stress about getting a table, getting refills etc
  • smaller place meaning it's more difficult for children to take off (sorry, that might be just mine - who seeks every opportunity to run around!)
Cons:
  • food options might be limited and normally there isn't a children menu
  • depending on your children's behaviour you might spend a lot of time trying not to disturb the other passengers
  • cost-wise it's unlikely you will spend that amount of money on food and drinks (but that really depends on your habits)

I recently realized most airports have children areas, so what we do is going to the lounge for food/toilet stop and then factor in time for some playing in kids' areas before boarding.

The Yorkshire lounge at Leeds Bradford.

I go to lounges to get away from other peoples kids as do a LOT of people especially those of us that travel for work. Would never have brought mine in to them when they were young.

Same. I like lounges specifically because there often aren’t children in there!

I’ve found them to be quite the opposite! Rarely have seen any children in any of them tbh

Thank God. That's why people go there.
