Anyone know much about environment agency Paternity leave?

As above, does anyone know whether the EA offer (paid) Pat leave to employees with less than 26 weeks service before baby is due?

My husband started the first week of December and baby is due end of July - so would have 8 months service by time baby is here.

Just trying to work out how much time he can have off as I am hoping for an ELCS and have a boisterous 4 year old already!

Thanks!

Policy should be on their intranet. Has he not looked?

GCWorkNightmare · 14/03/2023 11:21

8 months service is more than 26 weeks?

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2023 11:26

First port of call would be for the father to be to ask his employer I would have thought?

You're not seriously asking Mumsnet to do his personal admin for him are you?

ButtonSister · 14/03/2023 11:43

The people who will know, or have access to the info, will be employees. Could you ask one of them, i.e. your husband?

ncforpatleavehelp · 14/03/2023 11:44

The intranet is unclear. It doesn't state how long you have to have worked for them until you're entitled to paid leave.

He has looked into it lots and chased up the (external) HR but has had nothing back. Hence, I thought I'd ask here.

I'm not asking anyone to do any admin for my husband - simply asking if anyone has knowledge of the policy. If you haven't knowledge, please don't waste your time answering my question, however much I appreciate the support!!!

So much to unpack here OP 😂 but if he’s on civil service t+cs he’ll almost certainly get the paid leave at that point.

ncforpatleavehelp · 14/03/2023 11:49

He's not technically a CS employee but a PS employed through the EA on a 2 year contract.

The intranet literally states "you must apply for your Pat leave by no later than the 15th week before the baby is due" - nothing at all about length of service prior to this. HR have been no help as I said.

As an example, my business states that you need to have been employed for 26 weeks by the 15th week before the baby is born to be entitled to paid / enhanced PL.

No such advice on the EA intranet.

If no qualifying period then just apply as stated and HR can then decide if he qualifies or not?

ButtonSister · 14/03/2023 11:55

And as someone has already said, if he's been there since December then if 26 weeks is a triggering period it's irrelevant because he's exceeded that period.

ncforpatleavehelp · 14/03/2023 11:56

Thanks - he will - I just wondered whether anyone else here had experience of this and could advise. It's a fairly sizeable organisation with 10k + employees!

@ButtonSister gov.uk also says 26 weeks before 15th week before baby is due. Hence my confusion. And his.

We are not idiots, I promise. We both manage successful careers and children. This is just new to us - he's always been private sector and their info has been much much clearer.

Maybe at a high ish EA level things become more discretionary. I don't know!

it can’t only say that.

what do you mean by PS?

ncforpatleavehelp · 14/03/2023 16:47

It does say only that. Much more info about shared parental but otherwise pretty much zilch.

He's been told his role is more public servant than civil servant. Again, coming from the private sector it's all Greek to me.

That’s not a thing. He’s either on civil service t+cs or he isn’t (more likely the former but you seem to think not?)

ncforpatleavehelp · 16/03/2023 12:39

He's heard back from HR (only took 4 weeks) so we now know.

Thanks
