Thinking of moving here and looking at Scantabout vs Hiltingbury areas. But would love to hear about any experiences/gain any knowledge re living in CF. We have a young family. Thank you :-)

Chandler's Ford is a nice residential area. Good schools there too. There's a small shopping centre with a Waitrose, coffee shops etc. Cycling distance to Hiltingbury Lakes whic is a lovely place for walks etc
If you want more shops Eastleigh is a couple of minutes drive away. Big leisure centre and small local theatre also in Eastleigh. Some nice pubs in Hiltingbury area and a grest garden centre which is lovely to take young kids to at Christmas.
Winchester and Southampton both 10/15 minute drive away either via the M3 or on the main A roads

Well that sounds lovely! I didn't know about the lakes. Do you know anything about the scantabout area? And a heads up on somewhere that does good coffee would be fab :-)

Don't have any personal experience of that particular area - I know there's a Primary school there which is considered good I believe and the King Rufus pub is nice. I'm not a fan of chain coffee shops so am more likely to go to a local pub for coffee but the Bay Leaves Larder is nice for coffee and pastries.

I actually live in Southampton but I used to work at Thornden school which is a very popular secondary school in Chandlers Ford.

Thanks that's really helpful :-)

I used to live in chandlers ford. It’s lovely. Hiltingbury by far the nicest part of it (and house prices def reflect this). Bay leaves larder has lovely coffees and breakfasts. There is also a Costa on the high street. Scantabout and hiltingbury both good schools. Thornton a good high school.

very middle class area with excellent links to Southampton and surrounding areas (Portsmouth, Basingstoke). House prices have absolutely rocketed since we left (we rented), which I guess is due to how lovely it is. Lots to do nearby with children. Mottisfont national trust, Winchester science museum, Marwell zoo etc, plus the Winchester Christmas market. We moved to be closer to family in the end

I don't know scantabout but I would happily live in hiltingbury, my best friend lives there and we spend a lot of time there.

I'd go for hiltingbury in thornden catchment if you can stretch to it. Bay leaves cafe is lovely for coffee.

Where are you moving from OP?

I live a few miles from CF, in Southampton itself. From what I know, I’d pick Hiltingbury over Scantabout, but actually I’d pick Southampton or Romsey over either of them - for me Chandler’s Ford is your classic satellite settlement, it’s ok, but a bit soulless. House prices are high and good schools though, clearly lots of people do like it.

FruityLittleDrink · 14/03/2023 19:43

I like the fact the Ford garage there is called 'Chandler's Ford'

Hantsome · 14/03/2023 20:37

Couldn't afford Romsey though i love the look of it! It's quite a big move and work-related. Happy to consider Soton too. Winchester out as £££

Hmmm - but Hiltingbury is not cheap either. Where will you be working? And what is your current area like? Urban? Rural?
