Would you change this flooring?

I own a new build which came with brown flooring throughout the ground floor including kitchen, dining room, living room, utility room and hallways. Swatch attached.

2 years ago I really wanted to switch it out for white or grey flooring instead. I’m in a position to do so now, but should I? The 2nd photo is a generic picture from the internet of what I’d like.

The house is generally contemporary in style, everything is white and grey. There’s silver hardware. Concrete grey tiles in bathroom. White marble/black matte quartz kitchen. I just always felt like the brown flooring was a bit of an outlier.

Hate hate hate grey flooring. The wood effect is classic. Rugs and all other side furnishings can change the look of your room when you have classic blank canvas wood / wood effect. In my opinion.

I've got grey flooring and white walls, the colour comes from soft furnishings etc. I'd change your floors you obviously unhappy with them.

Take it from one who's had miserable experience with a cream tile floor, every speck of dirt and dust shows. I can vacuum, mop, hand-wipe and run the steam cleaner over it, and 10 min later looks like a barnyard.

Never again light-colored flooring. As soon as I can afford it, I'm going for a darker wood look.

I should add mine is wood flooring, so not plain grey.

Definitely don't do white or grey flooring. There are so many houses on RightMove at the moment where I start thinking the photos must have been taken in black and white because everything is either grey, chrome or white. In theory I guess it should look sophisticated and calming, but it's just so depressing.

I had a pure white floor in my bathroom which looked fabulous but it was a complete bastard to keep clean.

Barleysugar86 · 15/03/2023 19:58

So we went for similar white wood in the hall. It's frustrated me a lot actually as it's darkened in the grooves over time and I can't get it to look clean and new again. Mopping doesn't touch it. I wonder sometimes if a steam cleaner would help, but then I'm not sure how the wood would cope with the heat too.

I agree to keep what you have. Grey flooring is dated already & white is headed that way too. Agree with everyone else & you could add warmth & colour through paint, fabrics & accessories.

Love the idea of using the money for a holiday too 🙌

I made exactly the swap you're considering, but thankfully only in the kitchen. The off-white floor was great for the first few days but very quickly looked grubby and tatty. And cold and ugly too.

Keep it and change it when it’s knackered - you’ll be pleased you haven’t spent it twice

Oh my god I would give my back teeth for your brown floor. Our house came with white tiles throughout the ground floor and it's a complete nightmare. They look clean for about 15 mins after mopping and they are so cold and miserable. We have rugs everywhere to try and cover them up as much as possible!
