What are the sure-fire ways to lose weight in your 50s?

I have well and truly blobbed-out and I'm sick to death of it. Will it honestly be enough in my 50s to calorie count and run around a lot?

I am 54 and have joined Slimming World (I go to class even though it's a boring faff because I need the accountability of an official weigh in, and it motivates seeing others lose weight). In 6 weeks I have lost 1 stone 8 lbs.

As well as following the programme (which is basically low fat, low carb, plenty of lean protein and fruit and veg) I also two to three days of a mini fast weekly - so I finish my evening meal by 7pm and don't eat a single thing until 1pm the next day. 18 hours fasting in a 24 hour period x 2

I walk the dogs daily but don't do any other exercise as I have a torn meniscus

So yes, it's possible

And I wouldn't do calorie counting - what a faff

I’ve stopped drinking but not lost any weight.

I'm 53, I calorie count and it works. Yes, it's a bit faffy but if you use an app, it does the hard maths stuff for you.

Eat less and exercise more i guess

Same boring story as usual

Aposterhasnoname · 13/03/2023 21:29

Im 56 and I’ve lost a stone in six weeks on weight watchers. I’m allergic to exercise so don’t do any of that running around nonsense.

Do the Zoe programme if funds allow. That way you would know with complete science backed certainty what foods are right for your unique biology

It's pricey though

LimitIsUp · 13/03/2023 21:31

It's not really eat less and exercise more. Weight loss is primarily down to diet, and exercise does not contribute a great deal. It's also not about the quantity of what you eat but what you choose to eat - so it's not necessarily 'less' and small portions
