I've eaten out of date fish

M&S Thai fishcakes, use by date was yesterday. We have just eaten them for dinner.

I usually never risk things as I'm an emetophobe, but I'm a bit obsessed with reducing food waste at the moment so I just couldn't bin them.

How soon will I know if it was a mistake?

I think the fish in fish cakes is usually pre-cooked. You'll be fine. I'm emetophobic too, it's horrible isn't it?

@ginislife you and DH both. He will eat anything regardless of the use by date (including meat, fish, shellfish. ...) He's not once had food poisoning.

But he has a freak digestive system, he's never been sick in his life, even when the whole household has been struck down with norovirus and one of the DC vomited on him.

It's unbelievable, I'm so jealous.

He doesn't have a freak digestive system. He has a normal one you're just paranoid.

It's unusual to get food poisoning unless it looks Or smells real gross.

@louderthan I went to a restaurant with DH at the weekend and ordered a dish with prawns. I got so worried I would get sick as they weren't all chewy and rubbery and overcooked. So I gave them all to DH just in case and practically ended up eating plain pasta.
It's so annoying, I wish I wasn't like it, it's slowly turning me vegetarian which I guess is a good thing but I love my meat and shellfish! So sad!
