Does anyone know which drug is used for this? Google isn’t all that clear. Maybe any dentists on here know?

In the UK nitrous oxide is the commonest, Midazolam is used much less commonly as it can be unpredictable in kids. Any other sedatives would only be in a hospital setting and administered by an anaesthetist AFAIK.

Thanks. Yes, nitrous oxide sounds ok. Not so sure about midazolam

Nitrous oxide. We only use midazolam under 18 other than as a pre med for a GA in our service. Obviously this may differ (rarely) in very specific scenarios but would probably be in more specialist settings eg complex medical history contraindicating a GA in a specialist childrens hospital IME

Thanks. My daughter has been referred to a special children’s dentist to see if sedation is suitable as she said she could still feel pain after the numbing injection. I’m we don’t obviously know why the numbing didn’t work. I think they are maybe implying that perhaps it was imagined pain as she was nervous. So just preparing myself for what they may offer. Perhaps nitrous oxide and local anesthetic to try the procedure again. And if that doesn’t work a g.a.
