I haven't got anyone to sign DDs passport, what do I do?

Dr's won't do it.
Teachers at her school say they aren't allowed to do it.
The 2 people I know who have listed jobs don't have current passports themselves so cannot sign hers.

It's been a week since we applied and we can't find anyone!

Mine was successfully signed by a SAHM friend who was on the PTA. Don't worry too much.

cosmiccosmos · 12/03/2023 14:17

You don't need to have a passport yourself to sign someone's else's. Use one of the people you know.

toomuchlaundry · 12/03/2023 14:18

Teachers might not have known you for 2 years. I assume the professional people are caught by the same thing as GPs as they need to know you outside their professional role

You do. They need to have a valid passport.

We had ours signed by our local pub landlord :)

MorganSeventh · 12/03/2023 14:21

You do need to have a valid uk passport to sign someone else's. You have to enter the details as part of the process.

Extracurricular activities

Boomboom22 · 12/03/2023 14:24

It's not allowed for teachers unless they know the parent for 2 yrs, you don't have to know the child. As long as you know them and can give them dob place of birth middle name etc. Anyone you know on WhatsApp? Any mum from your kids class who recognises you and has an office or professional job would be fine.

ChocolateTea · 12/03/2023 14:25

Don’t forget you’re looking for people who know you, not necessarily your DD. As a minor the person counter signing is signing to say you as a parent is their friend/colleague, not that they know the child directly.

I’ve signed colleagues children’s passports (and vice versa) but I wouldn’t sign a passport for any children in my classes, even those I’ve taught for 3-4 years. Because I don’t know their parents outside of the school parents evenings annually.

BashfulClam · 12/03/2023 14:26

My friend signed my Husbands application. She’s a senior carer. It went through ok.

Jules912 · 12/03/2023 14:34

Does your hairdresser own the business? I asked mine once and it was fine on that basis,

Notellinganyone · 12/03/2023 14:35

OP I’m a teacher and I often get asked to do this and am quite happy to.

CremeEggThief · 12/03/2023 14:07

What do you mean the teachers won't do it? I think you need to ask the Head.

I'm an ex-primary teacher, most of my time spent on supply and I've been able to verify passports for people just on the basis of that, even when out of work!

The passport office requires you to know them personally not professionally.

CremeEggThief · 12/03/2023 14:41

Yes, March, so surely the OP will know someone in a profession personally?

Not even a UK passport, Morgan. I've verified people for UK passports while holding an Irish passport myself.

the rules for teachers signing has changed since I've been teaching. You have to know the parent.

waltzingparrot · 12/03/2023 14:47

Health visitor?

Im99912 · 12/03/2023 14:47

if you work in retail do you have security guard 😂
if so they will have a SIA badge that means
they can sign passports

SIA is a government / home office department that deals with the licensing for the security industry so they have all been checked to work legally .

my son works for the NHS security but has a SIA badge and he’s signed several passports in the past year

my sons friend is cabin crew and is only 23 but has signed passports

my beautician runs a beauty shop and signs passports

Ihavedogs · 12/03/2023 15:10

Step back a little and think. I had to do that recently as I was struggling for someone who could sign mine without me having to travel a distance or send the form to them. In the end one of my neighbours did it for me as they are a professional person, but I hadn’t immediately thought of them.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/03/2023 15:14

Does your dd do rainbows or similar?

Napmum · 12/03/2023 15:18

Your window cleaner? A dog walker? They're often business franchise owners, your Local Councillor? Café Owner? Local pharmacist, Local post office/post master, pub landlord? If you know people I retail do you know anyone who's licensed to sell alcohol? My Mum was on the list at the Local cost cutter as a senior staff member, she had the keys to the safe once a month wasn't a manager or anything.

MumofSpud · 12/03/2023 15:34

Go to a local Notary - my DH had to do this when he reapplied for his Irish passport- the list of those eligible to sign is even smaller than for a UK passport
He had to pay about £50

BlackFriday · 12/03/2023 15:44

As a teacher, I have signed dozens and dozens of passport forms over the years but not anymore. As many others have said on here, it is no longer allowed and we have specifically been told not to do them by our Head, if asked.

Irish passport holders aren’t accepted anymore, it needs to be a UK passport. I tried to sign off on a passport for an ex student recently and the website wouldn’t let me do it.

CremeEggThief · 12/03/2023 15:54

Fair enough Bod. This was in 2019.
