Vinted or Ebay - which has the best faff to success ratio?!

I've read a lot of threads about both recently. I'm familiar with Ebay but I also see that some people have regular ongoing success selling on Vinted. But when I read the threads there is the whole offer/counter-offer thing going on.

Allowing for me making sure I only try to sell things that are likely to be noticed/wanted, rather than tat, is Vinted a lot of faff? Ideally I want to list, sell and post, I'm not sure I'll want to invest time in constant messaging. Should I make do with Ebay and put up with the fees, or has that become more of a faff now (not sold on there for 2+ years)?

I find vinted so much easier. Way less faff than eBay IMO.

My items often sell quickly. Most buyers just buy at the advertised price Occasionally I get someone offering less, I can just press decline which is no hassle.

You could give it a go and if you don't like it it's easy to remove your listings.

RoamSeeker · 12/03/2023 12:35

There isn’t constant messaging on Vinted. Sometimes people send you an offer and you accept or decline. Put enough info on your ad and you shouldn’t get any other messages.
Vinted is easy because they send you the postage labels, unless you send Royal Mail.

RuthW · 12/03/2023 12:35

Vinted is better snd easier by a mile.

VanCleefArpels · 12/03/2023 12:36

Vinted all day long - but I would say prices tend to be lower there, but the benefit of quick turnover

Hawkins003 · 12/03/2023 12:38

It's a mix, on eBay you can set the listing to accept offers ect. But overall I'd say eBay has a bigger customer base

Hotvimto3 · 12/03/2023 12:39

Vinted so much easier

drpet49 · 12/03/2023 12:40

I get more for my items on eBay

lljkk · 12/03/2023 12:42

I listed same items on both sites, items sold on Ebay, no sales on Vinted. Ebay has much larger user base.

JamMakingWannaBe · 12/03/2023 12:47

Depends what you are selling. For higher value items I think eBay is still the best.

I prefer Vinted. I advertised some new trainers. Wanted £30 so priced them at £35 and accepted £30. DD's party dresses I've sold for £2 as I just want wardrobe space.

You don't have to chat/message if you don't want to.

Cotswoldmama · 12/03/2023 12:48

I've never sold on vinted but as a buyer I don't use eBay any more for clothing. I think items are more likely to sell on vinted because it's all about clothes.

skyeisthelimit · 12/03/2023 12:48

I've made over £600 on Vinted in around 18 months, selling clothes, makeup, toiletries, household items, books, games etc.

I find it so much easier than Ebay as the upload process is simple, it gives a guide as to what similar items have sold for. You can select the shipping companies that suit you, so I use Evri as that is the nearest drop off point to me.

When an item sells, I print off the label and drop it in the shop when I am passing.

I sell a lot of things cheap and cheerful, so have a lot of things at £1, but also sell items for more if they are worth more.

People do sometimes offer, but you can easily decline it. The best thing about Vinted is that people will buy bundles, so will buy several items at once as it saves them postage.

I use my Vinted balance to then buy things for DD for Christmas and Birthday.

Vinted is so much easier. I don't use ebay for selling at all now

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 12/03/2023 12:52

Vinted much easier & doesn't charge you.

Vinted all day long - but I would say prices tend to be lower there, but the benefit of quick turnover

And no fee!

PennyForearm · 12/03/2023 12:56

As a buyer (I’ve never used it for selling) I much prefer Vinted. It just seems like an easier and overall more pleasant experience than buying clothes on EBay plus I feel that sellers on Vinted generally don’t take the piss with their pricing.

CatNamedEaster · 12/03/2023 12:56

Wow thanks for all the feedback everyone!

I've not even been on Vinted so maybe part of it was fear of the new. I'll have a look at the kind of things/prices that are on there and try something on both sites then see how I go.

Cheers all 😊

I didn’t know there was no fee for selling on Vinted.

Perhaps that’s why I feel clothes are better priced on there. On EBay I always feel like the sellers are trying to make a bit extra to cover their fees and then make more money on shipping.

Beezknees · 12/03/2023 13:57

Vinted. It can be a bit of a faff in a way because the buyer chooses the postage, so it can be Evri, InPost locker, etc so you'll find yourself going to different places to post. But there's no fees and they're very seller friendly.

skyeisthelimit · 12/03/2023 15:51

Yes, forgot to mention, there is no selling fee on vinted, the buyer pays a premium instead.

Regarding postage, I switch off all the ones that I cannot use or don't want to use. We don't have Yodel or Lockers near us and I don't have time to keep going to the post office, so I switch off everything except Evri

CatNamedEaster · 12/03/2023 17:09

Oh that's really good to hear that you deselect postage options that don't work for you as the seller. Thanks for that tip.

I really don't like Vinted at all. I've stopped using it as 75% of my transactions became more faff than they were worth. It's easy to upload listings, but an utter PITA if things go wrong.

Problems I've had

  • Potential buyers making silly offers, and not taking no for an answer. Some got quite abusive.
  • Buyer complaining about the condition of something after they'd accepted that everything was fine. Refused to send photos, left poor feedback.
  • Evri tracking saying parcel was waiting to be collected, buyer claiming it wasn't there. No way on contacting Evri or Vinted other than by bots who hadn't been programmed for this eventuality. Vinted refunded the buyer. I've never seen the item again, totally lost out on that one.
  • wrong item sent, buyer blanking me. I got refunded though.
  • Not saying that I had posted an item in time. Buyer got refunded, after they'd received it!
  • Bank blocking my credit card because Vinted is based in Estonia and my transactions looked dodgy.
  • Vinted blocked my account for selling counterfeit goods - it was a pair of DS's Adidas trainers he'd grown out of very quickly.

I've been using eBay for 20 years/several hundred transactions with only 1 negative experience.

Grapefrui · 12/03/2023 17:42

I think Vinted is fast and cheap. Specialist items will probably do better on eBay. I have bought lots of kids clothes on Vinted and have never bought any on eBay because the prices are always high or people want to sell bundles.

As a seller, it’s super quick to list and things sell quickly if they are well priced. You get the full amount an item sells for and don’t have to pay the postage so it’s much easier to work out how much you’ll get. EBay charging commission on postage as well the item means constantly doing maths to make sure you don’t lose money.

Neighbourscominghome · 12/03/2023 18:29

I find vinted so easy and no fees. Listed about 12 things yesterday that ds had grown out of. Took me about an hour including taking the pics. By today 3 had sold and had made £13 - picked postage places I drive past anyway so will drop them off tomorrow on way to work. Easy!
