Good question!

I wonder if they’re something quite interactive available. Something that you can follow and actually do it as you go along.

Do you have access to a computer with excel installed?

I'm a person who learns by doing so I've learnt everything I know about Excel by just deciding what I want to achieve and then learning from google how to do it. Example projects you could set yourself.

Design a spreadsheet to track your weight loss.

Starting point

  • create a table with the following headers: Date (DD/MM/YYYY format) Weight (lbs), change from last weight (formula =This weeks weight-last weeks weight)

Enhancement 1

  • add conditional formatting to highlight a loss green and a gain red

Enhancement 2

  • create a graph charting your weight loss journey showing the ups and downs

Other projects
Design a spreadsheet to calculate your monthly income and outgoings

  • Calculate your average monthly spend
  • use data validation to create a drop down list to categorise your spending (Mandatory bills, optional subscriptions, food, entertainment etc)
  • create a pie chart showing the percentage of your spend by category

Create a spreadsheet to capture demographics details of a school

  • define your headers - First name, last name, preferred name, first line of address, postcode, age, religion, ethnicity.....
  • use pivot tables to get a count of how many people in the school are of each ethnicity
  • use the spreadsheet to create a Mail merge in Word
  • find the formula to concatenate First and last name into a single cell so you have a column showing full name.
  • Use 'text to columns' to separate a Full name into separate cells for First Name and Last name.

If you're looking to get a lot of practice with Excel and really build up your confidence, I totally get where you're coming from. I was in the same boat not too long ago. I started by working through different Excel exercises and found that myexcelonline had some fantastic resources. They offer practical exercises and real-world scenarios that really helped me get a handle on things. I spent a weekend going through their tutorials, and it made a big difference.

I’ve done DataCamp for a couple of programming languages. It is very hands on. I believe they have an Excel track.

Great thread @BlastedPimples
I feel like everyone I work with can use Excel but somehow I missed the training session on this! In reality there never has been any training but most people are self taught. My brain doesn't work like that so I shall try your suggestion @Tenxsys Thanks.

LinkedIn Learning is great for bite sized and longer training videos.
