Rash - pic included

Wise Mumsnetters, someone must know the answer to this.

Yesterday I suddenly had a small but itchy rash on my wrists and palms of my hands. Today I've woken up covered.

I've not eaten and drunk anything unusual, not changed laundry detergent etc, don't usually have allergies.

I itch from head to toe, particularly the palms of my hands and my scalp. I've just taken anti histamine. I'm absolutely knackered and have low level cold symptoms.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I think I’d ask a pharmacist; I don’t think it looks like hives but you’ve reacted to something I’d assume.

WhisperingAutistic · 11/03/2023 09:15

Does the rash feel warm?
It does look like an allergic reaction

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 11/03/2023 09:17

Definitely looks like an allergy.

You can suddenly become allergic to something, or the formula/recipe in something you use could have changed.

Not warm at all unless I scratch it

My 5 years old had this recently. We applied fucidin cream and a course of anti biotic. She had to see the paediatrician at A&E as she also had a fever on & off, lethargic and was vomiting. The doctor said the rash was caused due to her immune system been down due to a bug/infection she caught. She’s okay now. The nurse did initially think it was hives or an allergy but nothing like that. The itching was very bad.

Take double antihistamine, my gp friend told me that and it works for me

Wishiwasatailor · 11/03/2023 09:30

Take an antihistamine and if it goes down it’s probably an allergy to something.

AnnaMagnani · 11/03/2023 09:36

Looks like urticaria. Can be an allergy but equally can happen just because it feels like it.

20 years of chronic urticaria and counting. Mine arrives and disappears for no reason at all.

I had this once after a virus. It was super, suer itchy and just like yours on my scalp too. Was in France on holiday at the time so got antihistamine tablets and a steroid cream from a pharmacist. Cleared up quickly after that and I’ve never had anything like it before or since. Very weird.

I got a rash like this with covid (twice)

Because you mentioned cold symptoms it made me think of that.

Looks awfully itchy 😞

Thanks everyone. Body fairly rundown as I'm 8 weeks post major surgery and back at work. Trying antihistamine and hydroquartizone cream.

How old are you, OP? I have something similar and apparently it can be menopause related as the lack of oestrogen makes skin dryer and more prone to eczema etc.

Hope the rash goes down soon, mine is driving me mad!

Seiheiki · 11/03/2023 23:27

37, surgical menopause
