Council tax bill

AJ2009 · 10/03/2023 18:36

I receive my new bill yesterday and surprised to see my amount for the next year has actually gone down.
I'm surprised because I heard it was going to increase so really was dreading opening the letter.
It's around £9 a month lower. I'll be paying over 11 months.

Has anyone else received their and know why it costing less instead of more?

I'm band A

Thanks

Mines gone up £10 a month, so £210 a month now

Bluebellbike · 10/03/2023 19:52

Mine has gone up 4.7%

It was £86 per month (monthly paid over 12 months). It has gone up to £91 per month. Band A with the 25% single person discount.

OneCup · 10/03/2023 20:46

+1%

Theunamedcat · 10/03/2023 20:51

Mine hasn't shown up yet its showing as nil balance which is nice but anxiety inducing as Iike to know where I am!

murasaki · 10/03/2023 20:52

Up 15 per cent. Thanks Croydon Council. Apparently if you are bankrupt and owe the government a fuck ton of money, the cap doesn't apply.

LabRat90 · 10/03/2023 21:26

Up 9.4% over here 😭

Camdenish · 10/03/2023 21:34

Just under 5% increase but we pay over 12 months as the actual amounts are so large. It’s London so even very small properties are in the higher bands and therefore more expensive.

Whichnumbers · 10/03/2023 21:41

I really want an option to pay it over 9 months, then I’d not have to pay January when it’s a king month 😂

If you put an extra 11% aside each month then that would cover it

XenoBitch · 10/03/2023 22:41

Mine has gone up the maximum the council is allowed. Happens every year.

One year, I had a rebate for not claiming the single person discount. When it came round to renewal, mine went up £65 a month... for Band B. Was painful.
Worst bit is, I am entitled to CT benefit, but I lack the spoons to apply for it.

PinkBuffalo · 10/03/2023 22:52

I am in SE single person band b property
council tax gone up by £5 a month and I pay over 12 months
does no sound like a lot but with mortgage going up by £100 a month and phone and internet also going up I am lucky I can just about afford it

Whichnumbers · 11/03/2023 03:37

Okunevo Yes I know, I have savings but I’d just rather the payment each month was 11% higher. It’s physiological if the moneys been paid I’d prefer it

Toomanybooks22 · 11/03/2023 07:01

I thought they had to have a referendum in an area where the council raises taxes 5% or more? Ours is going up 4.99%

I don't think there's anything stopping you overpaying, just send them the extra you want to pay

Yes, you can just overpay every month, then by January you’ll have nothing left to pay.

CornishTiger · 11/03/2023 08:30

Ours have gone up overall 5.4%. That’s an additional £7 a month.

Our parish council precept is 14% increase but last year it was -4%.
Police commissioner has gone from 4.2%- 6.1%.

It’ll be a squeeze but we’ll manage it.

Dont forget exceptional council tax relief for those who are really struggling bills wise.

Thisisnotahotel · 11/03/2023 08:49

Mine is still to come through Angryin Scotland there is no KAP to how much they can increase it so expecting at 10% hike at least.

Littlebluedinosaur · 11/03/2023 09:08

traintraveller · 11/03/2023 09:27

5% increase on council tax and 5% increase on water rates. Not received bill yet so not sure on exact figures.
