DD is really interested in her history topic and I'm looking for things we can watch together. We've watched The Untouchables and Of Mice And Men.

Any ideas gratefully received.

If you have access to Paramount+ you can go to the Smithsonian brand and there's a 2 part show called "Drinks, Crime & Prohibition' which looks interesting.

this series which i eventually found on youtube vs pbs is fabulous
www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-dust-bowl/
brings up poor agricultural practices, poverty (which lasted way longer than i expected) and the link to today's environmental concerns.

Chinatown is brilliant, but incestuous rape is discussed (though nothing happens onscreen). There's also some troubling anti-Asian racism.

Both are long as hell, but Giant and There Will Be Blood are both worth a watch.

Thank you. I would never have thought of the Waltons!

There's a book by Bill Bryson called 'One Summer - America 1927'. It takes a close look at the summer of 1927 by means of newspaper and newsreel items, and looks both back to the previous years and forward to the next.
