Can you bake in an air fryer

My understanding of an air fryer is that its not a deep fat fryer but circulates hot air around a small cavity so it's like a mini oven.

I don't have a working oven and I decided to buy an air fryer for cooking potatoe waffles and maybe some roast vegetables. I am interested in experimenting. I got a ninja and it has a bake button. I presumed I could bake things in it. I am interested in baking soda bread and banana bread and ginger bread. I love egg based dishes and I was hoping on making some vegetable omelettes using a baking tin.

I presumed this kind of stuff could be cooked but I read something online and apparently not. It say no wet stuff is allowed in an air fryer. I am disappointed in that now because I don't eat chips or breaded food stuffs like breaded chickens.

I’ve baked in mine. It seems to bake things quicker, so check earlier until you get the hang of it!

Depends on the fryer if it has a basket/dish suitable. The ninjas definitely do this. Alternatively you could put an oven safe dish inside the fryer basket

I’ve made bread rolls in mine, just had to turn them over after about two thirds of the time to ensure they were evenly cooked. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people making cakes in air fryers, but not tried it myself.

Turn the temps down though

BlooberryBiskits · 09/03/2023 20:53

Yes: I’ve made cakes (in a loaf tin), cookies etc. I generally reduce the temperature by about 10 degrees and the cooking time is generally about 1/3 less

I have the instapot vortex which is a 5.3l, I love it

I’ve made banana bread in mine you just need to use a loaf tin

I baked a carrot cake in my ninja fodi. Just a normal cake tin. Lower temps and little bit less time.

My Ninja bakes, air fries, slow cooks, pressure cooks, steams, sautés and grills. It is awesome. The bake function is the most commonly used on ours.
I haven't baked homemade bread in it, and think it would be a bit of a struggle given the size/shape of the cooking space, but have baked the shop bought 1/2 baked rolls many times without issues.

I bought an accessory kit from amazon for airfryers up to 5.5 L. It has many different round tins and some racks. I am hoping I will be able to bake with them. I do want to be very adventurous with the machine when it arrives.

I'm looking forward to roasting vegetables too.

Has anyone made cinnamon rolls in one?
With shop bought puff pastry?🙏

I bought the 9.5 ltr one recently.

Great yoke.

Loving how fast a big roast chicken is done in it.

My children are flinging pizza, spring rolls, chips, goujons, into it constantly.

Very handy.

EmmiJay · 09/03/2023 22:16

I made doughnuts in mine. Does that count?😅

billy1966 · 09/03/2023 22:17

Insta vortex versa airfryer is mine.

Liquid like eggs with bits in it in a dish lined with greaseproof paper come out very well.

Briallen · 09/03/2023 22:17

I’ve done a lemon cake in mine. Prefer the oven only because I’m not used to timings in the ninja yet. I have the 9 in 1. Love it for roast chicken!

JamMakingWannaBe · 09/03/2023 22:24

I've done profiteroles in mine. I reckon it would be good for meringue too. When I've made a victoria sponge I've found it doesn't rise as much as it does in the oven. Not sure why.

JackHackettsMac · 09/03/2023 22:24

I’ve got a basic pan style air fryer with a timer and a temperature dial and regularly bake choc chip cookies and French pastries in mine.

Feuillemille23 · 09/03/2023 22:35

I think they say no wet stuff just in case people decide to cook soggier things without putting them in a dish or on a tray... Lots of recipes online for bread rolls etc and we're now on the lookout for tiny trays we could use in ours. We've baked plenty of frozen pastry like croissants in there and they've come out perfectly.

brittanyfairies · 11/03/2023 08:23

I made brilliant scones in my Ninja. I tried muffins and while they came out ok, because there is a very strong fan they didn't rise straight and all looked like ski slopes. They tasted just like muffins so I didn't care
