After feeling guilty that mum needed to go into a home
and had I chosen the right one.
Just had a letter to inform that's mums fees are increasing in April.
She will now pay £960 per week up from £890. This is in a dementia led care home.
For this she has a very large private room, own toilet and all toiletries provided.
3 freshly made meals a day plus enough tea/coffee and lots of cakes.
Food is made on the premises. Copy of menu is sent to me every week.
Entertainment is 5 days a week. This includes dancing and singing.
Organist one afternoon. There is a pub, cinema room.
3 private conservatorys for family visits. Beautiful gardens.
All chiropody included.
One lead staff nurse per unit(there are 2 units) plus 8 carers again each unit during the day and One lead nurse and 4 carers during the night.
Next month the home are starting to update the bedrooms.
There is plenty more things that made me know I chose the right home.
The staff treat the residents with love and care.

All this is completely different to what care my late mother in law had in a nursing home hardly any staff, the tiniest room and no private toilet. Unfortunately we had no choice as she was discharged to this home during covid.

What does your love one get in there home and how much do they pay.
Are you pleased with the care they get.

Moderate dementia care
Sussex 2020 only place available emergency admission.

£950/week
Awful, graded as failing, Mum wasn't eating, residents always distressed, small dark room we couldn't see (covid) belongings went missing and were damaged. Even had a fire.

Cheshire 2022 six month waiting list £900/week beautiful home, en suite triple window room, caring staff, calm residents, home cooked food, wine/Sherry. Schedule of daily entertainment. The residents bake and celebrate different cultures with food, Dr visits once a week. Mum is so happy and has put on two stone.

I actually do not know how the staff do what they do but I'm so grateful.

We paid for hair and foot care separately in both.

Just realised there's something identifying on the image but actually it doesn't matter I can't recommend them highly enough if anyone is looking for somewhere in Cheshire.

How do people pay for this? I have autism and own a small house but have no children. My house is worth about £160 000. According to these prices that would only pay for three or four months care, so what would happen to me after this? And who would arrange it all?

I guess maybe social services, but I don't find them the greatest.

We purchased my Mum an inflation linked Lifetime Annuity for £134k
Basically gambling on her life Confused she's almost 90 with epilepsy, high blood pressure and dementia but very determined!
The annuity plus her pension covers all her fees.

Strongboat Your money would last for three or four years and then there is a chance you could stay in the home you are in and your fees would be paid. Often the social services negotiate a lower price per week with the care home and when the money runs out and pay for you to stay there.
I viewed 10 homes for my DM and it seemed the higher the fees the less chance you had of staying there. I think a lot depends on whet you live and what suitable homes are available.

Thank you. I suppose as I wouldn't have anyone to visit me, it wouldn't matter where I ended up.

Dgm's care bill was £1800 a week! She died in 2020 dp not even current prices. Thankfully the nhs picked up the tab through continuing care. Advanced dementia with 1:1 even 2:1 24/7

Was the £1800 including 121? I work for a care home provider, and our dementia nursing fees are going up to around £1950 per week, and 121 is on top, at around £15 an hour

£1035 a week for dementia nursing care.

She had no assets so the trust pays a percentage of it, plus her pension and we pay a top up fee.

She has excellent care, a beautiful corner room with a wet room, photos of her family everywhere.

She has lost her swallow so she gets specialised pureed foods and needs one to one nursing care.

Free chiropodist but we have to pay for her weekly hair do. We provide her toiletries too.

We're very happy with her care and she is content and well treated. She recognises the carers even when she doesn't recognise us.
