Parent and Child Parking

Recently I was on my own and parking in a fairly small car park and there were no free spaces other than one parent and child space. If there are no other free spaces is it morally right to park in a P&C space? I obviously wouldn't park in a disabled space because that's immoral and I'd get a ticket but I don't see P&C spaces as quite the same. I do have a baby and acknowledge that they make it easier to get a baby out of the car, but surely not at the expense of someone without a child being able to park at all?

In the end I spent so long dithering about it that another space became free but I'm going back to the same car park today and was just wondering what I'd do if it was the same situation.

Anyway, I think it's ok if there are literally no other spaces whatsoever but in general, wouldn't take one if it's not necessary. Applies to both tube and car parks imo @Vegrocks

Yep. Exactly what I said

No I wouldn’t have used it.

I don’t. And I think it’s just as wrong as parking in a disabled one.

Local shopping centre defines P&C spaces for parents with children in a car seat and regularly issued fines to anyone parking there without a child. I see tickets on cars on a daily basis when I walk through the carpark on the way to work

I have no idea how easy they would be to contest/what proof the attendants use to issue the ticket. I never park there unless DC are with me, previously did when heavily pregnant but wouldn’t take the risk now as contesting would be a pain even if I felt I was in the right

How would they know?

Disabled blue badge displayed for a disabled spot

but parent and child? And what’s a “child”. Anyone dependent? Could be in their thirties! Under 18.

I very much doubt. Which supermarket?

Supermarket is Tesco in Blandford Forum, but I’ve seen it elsewhere too.

T&Cs displayed obviously state the age of the DC (I think under 10 but can’t remember off the top of my head).

As for enforcement, I’m guessing that the parking attendants can use their eyes?? They can obviously see that there is no DC in the car/accompanying the adult.

Which Asda? Curious because one Asda wouldn’t have a different policy to all the rest.

Several asdas in Yorkshire have the same message.

A real mix of opinions then! I think if it happens again I'll park there if I have somewhere urgent to be (I use this car park for doctor's appointments) but if I'm not in a rush I'll wait for another space.

I personally would find on road parking instead, as that's much more of a pain for a parent with a young child than it is for me if I'm alone, but that's not always easy dependent on your area.

I wouldn't if I didn't have my child with me. Or was heavily pregnant but even then I felt a bit rude doing it.

I think that if there are no spaces other than that one then I can wait for the 100 other spaces. Someone who has 2 young children or a blue badge will need that space and can't use the 100 others, they can just use those 5 or whatever.
