Atrocious spelling

DS is in y7 and dyslexic. A teacher apparently through his test down on the table and said in front of the class that his spelling is atrocious and that is why he did so badly.

His confidence is in the gutter anyway and this really hasn't helped.

Would you raise it with the teacher? DH happens to be a teacher in the same school which he thinks makes it awkward.

I’d raise it with the Head of Year. Similar thing happened with my son in Yr6 (Maths. Very dyslexic. Written Maths questions. He managed to complete eight of the 16 questions within 30 minutes and was told off in front the whole class who were all asked if “DS has done enough homework?”

It was dealt with very promptly and the teacher spoken to. Their relationship was rocky for a while but since then his confidence has improved. He’s no longer expected to read out in class and is given a realistic amount of questions to answer.

Thanks, this was a maths test too. Does concern me that information about SEN isn't being shared across all the subject teachers.

Please do raise it. I have done and have received an apology for my child. It's really not on. I would always say imagine if your child had one arm and the teacher made them do a handstand and then commented on it, everyone would be outraged. Why would it be different for dyslexia?
