Would you recommend an air fryer

I don't own an air fryer but I am tempted by one. Do you own one? Would you recommend it?

I saw a recipe on tiktok of avocado and egg and cheese and it looked lovely. My own cooker is broken and I am tempted by an air fryer.

I got this one for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It's so simple to use and to clean.

I rarely use my oven now except for roasts and a couple of other things.

XenoBitch · 07/03/2023 23:41

Yes!
I got mine, and it created a domino effect where everyone I knew got one too!

The name is not accurate. They do not "fry" stuff. It is essentially a mini oven.
Less time to warm up and cook things.

Yes definitely. I use mine daily. Really easy to clean and cheaper and quicker than oven.

I feel as though the whole of mumsnet loves them but as a contrast to that - we got one as a (generous) gift and really didn't think much of it, then it broke after a few months fairly minimal use anyway and truth be told I was quite pleased to get it off the worktop and do away with it.

It doesn't fry anything and I don't think the results are comparable to deep frying (which is essentially the claim) at all. On a functional level it's just a table top convection oven. I found that you do have to add oil to most things and keep on top of shaking them (chips particularly) if you want a good result so I didn't think it was quite the miracle worker it's touted as. There wasn't anything I cooked in it that wasn't better or the same just made in the oven as usual so for me it was a novelty thing really, rather than a useful kitchen appliance- and I did want to like it.

DP tried it quite a few times as he does a lot of cooking and basically thought it was really good for homemade chips or fries but wasn't fussed about it otherwise.

Mine is hardly used. I don't like the way joints of meat taste in mine and the only thing it's really used for is potato waffles and wedges:

I appreciate I'm in the minority, my sibling loves his and bought himself a second double drawer ninja to be able to cook everything at once for the whole family.

I don't know if it's because my oven is quite new but speed wise it's not much faster and money wise, I'd have to be using it a long time to be saving anything due to the expense. If it broke, I wouldn't replace it.

Rebel2 · 08/03/2023 00:45

Mine isn't a basket one, it has shelves

Mostly I use it for stuff that putting the oven on seems a waste so
Reheating pizza
Beige freezer food
A few cubed potatoes to go with an omelette
Part baked bread
Garlic bread

My dad has the same one, loves it and is way more experimental than me!

I bought the dual zone Ninja but wish I had bought one of the round ones that you can do slow cooking, pressure cookn& saute as well as all the air fry stuff

Redglitter · 08/03/2023 00:52

I love mine. I honestly don't know the last time I used my oven. As pp said it's not a fryer it's basically a mini oven. Things cook a lot faster so it's definitely more economical. I wouldn't be without mine

SpookyBlackCat · 08/03/2023 00:58

I think it depends on what kind of food you like to eat. I do potato wedges in mine, especially the spicy ones are great, but thinner chips don't really work. I also do thinks like roast chicken, spare ribs, chicken nuggets, etc. I heard veggies work well, but I haven't tried yet.

I have the 14 in 1 and wish I'd bought the dual. If you live in east central Scotland we could swap?! 😆

I can never work out timings on mine, is there a website that would help?

MuddlingThrough1724 · 08/03/2023 04:25

@Coffeepot72 - we find this guide fairly spot on!

Would you recommend an air fryer
Coffeepot72 · 08/03/2023 18:46

@MuddlingThrough1724 thank you!

Scotblue · 09/03/2023 13:38

I bought the ninja 5.2L round airfryer. Looking forward to delivery. It seemed to be the most suitable for my needs and counter space and wants. Hopefully I will enjoy cooking with it.
