New Balance Trainers Do Not Grip Well On Damp Surfaces?

namechange8621 · 07/03/2023 10:37

I have gone through several pairs of this brand but I was surprised to find myself slipping on an outdoor tiled surface while wearing my new pair. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks

Yes, I have too. I wore ASICS for many, many years then switched to NB (for a long, convoluted reason that I won't bore you with!) and was surprised how slippery they were on wet surfaces. On my second pair now and they are much the same. Thinking of moving on to something else but not sure what at the moment.

ArianahX · 07/03/2023 11:25

I find my Adidas to be similar, I've nearly slipped over in them!

namechange8621 · 07/03/2023 12:06

Asics are good - If only I had remembered.
I'm pissed off to put it mildly. I've used them now so I cannot return them

😶I thought that every branded pair of trainers would be moderately anti-slip as a minimum

I hate that I’ve got 2 pairs of barely touched Nike internationalists as they’re lethal if it’s rained

Ponderoveryonder · 07/03/2023 12:10

Yes but some models are far worse than others. I had to return some (574s?) to asos because the manufacturing quality was nothing like previous ones in the same model . I slipped three times on the first day!

Ponderoveryonder · 07/03/2023 12:12

@Myjobisanightmare i have them too! Dangerous trainers!

Beamur · 07/03/2023 12:14

I had some Merrell outdoor trainers that were hopeless in wet conditions and some Jack Wolfskin ones that were too.
Not helpful!

MarissaG · 07/03/2023 12:15

Some trainers are listed as ‘lifestyle’ and I would steer well away from these as they are just for fashion rather than for a particular sport.
Which New Balance are yours OP - so I can avoid as I need a new pair?

illiterato · 07/03/2023 12:17

I'm not sure if it would be prohibitively expensive but some shoe repair places have vibram soles which they can glue to the bottom and improve the grip. My trail runner friends do this to effectively covert a favourite road shoe into a trail shoe

Baffledismydefault · 07/03/2023 12:21

I have a pair of 680's, relatively new and very comfortable but also very slippy. I slipped in mud recently (thankfully going up a slope, not down) so they won't be worn now unless it's dry.

They are the trail running shoes - probably good enough to run in a heatwave, not sure about the rest of the year 😀

That’s shocking namechange. I have just ordered some Asics trail running shoes, which I’m hoping will be ok. But New Balance usually fit me well, I think Asics might be a bit narrow, from what I’ve read in reviews.
I’ll report back if they are any good - they were in the Outlet section on the ASICS website so pretty cheap ATM.

My Merrell walking shoes are the same

SouthCountryGirl · 07/03/2023 12:54

Not had a problem with my NB 500s

Supergluerules · 07/03/2023 12:55

I have a pair of 574s and they are slippery in the wet, I thought it was just my pair but clearly not. I have to be really careful walking up the garden path!

cocksstrideintheevening · 07/03/2023 13:05

I've got Nike Blaze that I can't wear in the rain.

I prefer the fit on NB as well which is why I was sure they would be the best choice. I have to say that even my cheap pair of supermarket own brand plimsolls bought in an emergency are less likely to cause a fall.

I have salomon trail shoes - definitely good in the wet. Very comfy for my narrow foot with nice wide toe box.

ArabeI · 07/03/2023 13:44

A pair of my Brooks do this in wet conditions. They're lethal!

MySpunkyGoldHiker · 09/08/2024 03:25

These shoes are dangerous on any surface that is even partially wet or dusty, impossible on ice.

I tore a hamstring when I slipped wearing these shoes. I had to many other slips and falls before this.

cheap plastic is what they use for the soles. No rubber.

do not let the aggressive looking sole fool you,, I spent 2 years in rehab for my leg.

I burnt my pair.

strongly suggest you do not by.
