How often does you employer use the ‘stick’ of having to back into the office full time?

Now we’re in a hybrid/WFH world.

Just trying to get a feel for what’s ‘normal’

We’ve been told if we keep ‘underperforming’ we will be made to work in the office both Friday and yesterday (we are all working flat out and moral is very low).

All employees who are WFH think they are doing great
IME most employers disagree

Lots of employees have targets to meet. So it is very easy to compare.

This sounds like a weird baseless generalisation. Work is work, whether done in the office or at home. If there is a work load, it can be monitored in some aspect or another.

Never , it's accepted I work a hybrid role .

evemillbank · 07/03/2023 21:11

Never!

I work for a multinational, 60000 ish employees worldwide. About 2000 in our UK office, lots of different departments. We're supposed to work 60/40, 3 days in office, 2 at home. Reality is we do what we like because pulling people up on it, means pulling everyone up on it, and that would keep management permanently busy. A waste of everyone's time!

The days of presenteeism and micro managing are over as far as I'm concerned. I'd seriously consider leaving if they took away work from home.

Phonemonkey2023 · 07/03/2023 21:26

I don’t know why people have issue with my turn of phrase hybrid/WFH world? I just mean offices that pre 2020 had no working from home and now the majority do.

I go into the office when I want an easy day.

mindutopia · 07/03/2023 21:28

Never, I’ve not worked 5 days a week in the office for about 20 years. It’s very normal in my field to wfh. I came in 2-3 days a week pre-COVID and now since everyone else is the same, there’s no point. It just means I have to wrangle with the dodgy office wifi to try to have a meeting, when I could otherwise be at home and use my wifi that actually works.

Barleysugar86 · 07/03/2023 21:29

Never. My wonderful Company is fully flexible with how we work.

If we were underperforming they'd maybe suggest more days in office for support but it wouldn't be phrased in this kind of way.

But I've worked in many bad companies too so this doesn't surprise me either.

mindutopia · 07/03/2023 21:36

If I want internet access in the office, I have to access it through my personal mobile hotspot as wifi is so bad. I go in only about once every month or every other month as a result.

ChilliBandit · 07/03/2023 21:40

The only people I know who moan about employees lazing about when they WFH are middle managers desperate to prove why their job exists.

TheChosenTwo · 07/03/2023 22:44

Not really, it was clear that the hybrid policy was temporary and we all know it could end at any time.
I only joined in august and before that never had a job I could wfh doing so I still feel so happy with the balance. I do 2 days in the office a week and it’s a really nice mix.
Of the 4 managers, one comes into the office semi regularly, I’ve met him maybe 5 times. Two I’ve seen maybe 3 times and 1 I’ve never met in the office, only ever at other events, they aren’t very present and I think if they decided to have us all back in the office permanently they’d get a shock at having to be more present themselves 😂

Rockingcloggs · 07/03/2023 22:55

There is no working from home at my organisation, unless someone requests it for if they're waiting for a delivery once in a blue moon. For me, WFH was soul destroying and I'd rather have an eye out than do it again!
