I would like to fill in my mums family tree for her - she has most of the details but has arthritic hands and can't do the actual tree diagram thing herself. I don't want one that needs to go on the wall because there's a lot of secrecy involved 🙄

My mum was brought up one of 6. However it turns out she is actually a half sister to those 5 siblings and had a different dad. That dad had 8 children of his own. My mums 80 so those siblings (all 13 or near enough) have all went on to have children and so on.

Is there anywhere I can buy a template that would have enough spaces to fill in to fit in her parents and her siblings and nieces and nephews?

I'd like to do it for her because nobody knows that she knows except us and so she can't display a photo of her dad for example and I thought this could be something she could keep safe but know it's there iyswim?

Can you do it on a spreadsheet?

It was a good few years ago when I did my family tree, I used Family Tree Maker software (not sure if it's still available or if there is something similar). It was really easy to use, you could store all sorts of notes, information and photos for each person. You could store the tree on the computer or print out various different versions.

You can build a tree on Ancestry and keep it private.
Alternatively, have a look here to see if there's anything suitable...

If you want a printed chart there's lots of templates on Cindis list - www.cyndislist.com/free-stuff/printable-charts-and-forms/?page=3

You could probably adapt one if you can't find exactly what you want.

you can also print off of ancestry.

Thanks everyone - yes sorry I need a paper copy for her. I'll take a look at all your suggestions :)

I would build the tree on ancestry.com then copy out onto a cut down roll of wallpaper or similar. Concertina into a book that is manageable and that can be spread out when needed. What a lovely task to have! Hope your mum enjoys it.
