I'm just not very good at anything

I really need a new job but I'm just clumsy and have no real skills. I don't learn things like others seem to. I could do a job for 10 years then a teenager could appear and do it better than me after a few days.

I don't seem to have any problem solving skills and my mind goes blank at 'give me an example of a time' type questions.

I like being given jobs to do and completing them, ticking off a list always feels good. I don't think I could ever manage people but how on earth do am i ever going to earn a liveable salary when I'm just crap at everything?

Any ideas? Despite the self put downs on here, I'm generally a happy person!

What do you do at the moment? What do you enjoy? Working with people, animals, outdoors? What qualifications do you have?

Try an apprenticeship after identifying what sector / industry would fulfil you the most - apprenticeships are low pressure and you learn on the job and have time to study wit tutors etc

I know someone who got into an apprenticeship at 45 years old with zero knowledge of the subject matter - in 6 months she already got a promotion and is still learning on her course - granted she found something that matches her availability - by the way she used to feel a bit like you.

I'm a nurse and loved it up until about 5 years ago. Now I'm an anxious mess what with staff shortages, very unwell patients and a generally toxic environment. But don't go thinking I've got lots of transferable skills, my ward is very routine based and I do the same thing in the same order every shift.

I don't want to work as a healthcare provider in any way anymore, don't want to do teaching or social work or anything like that. I'd prefer to open a laptop at home, complete some jobs then close the laptop and get on with life. I'd love a job that didn't fill my days off with anxiety.

I think I'm too old (40) to be an apprentice but I'll certainly look into it!

I'm in the same boat @Holidaymoo and a similar age!

You will have the most amazing set of transferable skills. Like prioritising workloads, team work but also good at working independently. You'll be good with customers / clients. You can use complex software.

Have you had a look at your local council website for admin roles? I've applied for a few and they compliment my transferable skills in most interviews. They often allow WFH too. And once you're in a role, you can find out what you enjoy and apply for other roles internally. From data admin to marketing.

Just have a lookie but never write off your skills. You have them x

Thank you I'll look into that! Honestly I go to my ward and just get on with it. There's no real prioritising as it's the same thing constantly, pure routine. I helped in mi friends bar a few years ago and I was a mess!! I'm off to look at council jobs now thanks 😊

Omg Id never cope in a bar 😂 I was the worst waitress and was demoted to glass collecting only haha!!

Even being able to "follow processes and routine" is a skill that a lot of people lack! Think positive xx
