Anyone with tight cervix/non vaginal birth have a successful coil fitting story to share

As it says…. I went to have a Mirena coil fitted today by my gp. I have not given vaginal birth so was pre warned it might not work. Well it didn’t. Three tries and nope. Cervix too tight. Very much of an anticlimax. Anyone out there with a similar stubborn cervix that actually has managed to get a coil fitted??

Mine can only be done under GA. No issues. Attempts without were brutal.

I had mine after 2 paracetamol and it was bloody painful. Another tiny cervix. Female gynae too, so I felt she should have known better. Strings have now disappeared and it's due for replacement. I intend getting very shirty if I'm not offered some major drugs.

Hope you don't mind me asking in your post! Can I ask the ladies what the reasons were for coil with GA? I have had three coils fitted & the last two (since fibromyalgia) have been agony. Dr makes out the increase in pain is not connected to fibro. Ive decided I can't go through this again but it helps with heavy periods. How do I get it fitted under GA please? I've had one C-section (wouldn't dilate) & have no issues with smear but can't deal with coil insertion anymore!

Dodgy cervix here. First one was done at the STD clinic with a local anaesthetic. The second was done by a gynaecologist. Fairly gruesome - she couldn't get it in and went for the chief whilst I was legs akimbo with clamps on my cervix. 🥺☹️

However, once in, my periods are a shadow of their formal selves.

I had a period of being in shock after both but all the staff were very kind.

I had 1 coil (marina) before kids and a copper coil fitted after. I have a stubborn cervix and whilst fully dilated I ended up having an emergency C-section in the end as DD was shoulder first and got stuck.

I saw the gynaecologist for my first fitting as gp was not comfortable doing it as I hadn't given birth. Second one I had at the sexual health clinic. Both times I had to do all sorts of positions to try and open my cervix up. Did they ask you the same? I did have the anesthesic spray thing for my post birth one which was harder to fit than my pre birth coil. It took 2 members of staff to manage it as my cervix wouldn't seem to open for one member of staff so they asked another to try rather than have a failed appointment.

I had none inserted under ga and it has been brilliant and I suffered absolutely mo pain whatsoever. I had two cs and had to have a polyp removed. They couldn’t find or access cervix at all so referred me for ga and said they would put mirena in at same time.

@AngelsWithSilverWings That’s great to hear.
I have now been booked in with the sexual health clinics specialist BUT they said if that doesn’t work then my gp need to refer me to have it done under GA.

I've had 3 C sections but did fully dilate with the first two so maybe that's why I had no issues having a Mirena fitted. The only problem with mine was due to an inverted uterus so I had to go to a specialist doctor lady ! Didn't feel anything tbh. I've also used a mooncup since having it fitted and never had any problems with vacuums 🙂

Just an update after yesterdays appointment at the sex health clinic. Saw the specialist there who did an ultrasound scan fist then a pain relief injection into the cervix 😳which I guess it what some refer to as the cervical block? She managed to get it in but geez it was an epic experiece. Scanned me after too. I felt more shit after the whole ordeal than during it but now it is in and will hopefully stay there!
