Exactly what care is required for a large new tattoo?

I don't know much about tattoos but I was surprised to see Katie Price has had a large new tummy tattoo in the last week. And she's also had photos taken in the swimming pool. I'm curious about tattoo healing?

That's not recent enough to require wrapping or anything

So it's ok to go in a swimming pool within 48hrs of having a tatt?

I don't think it looks that new.

If its fine-line/dotwork i'd leave it at least 3 weeks before swimming - 4-5 weeks if heavy blackwork or full colour.

@Jesko @Pootles34 Those two pictures that I joined together above were taken 48hrs apart last week in Thailand. There's a big difference between the two with a new large tattoo over the lower abdomen in the 2nd one.

Unless you're her artist, potential doctor for when an issue arises or have just had a tattoo and are about to get into a swimming pool (don't), I can't see why you care?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 06/03/2023 07:50

Generally the advice is no swimming till the scabs have gone. The possible impacts of not caring for it properly are that the tattoo will end up patchy or infection.

I'm surprised if those pictures really are only 48 hrs apart as there's no redness remaining and you can see darker patches on the black bit which is what you get when the scabs are well formed so either she heals quickly or the reporting on timelines is somewhat off.

If you take that attitude to everything then we'd all have very little to say to each other.
