Can someone take a few moments to explain selling on Vinted to a technically challenged imbecile

Have a massive bag for charity, but there are a few bits I could probably sell.

Have done ebay before but not for many years (and I was very low tech there, used to handwrite my labels)

I assume a printer is essential for Vinted? Do you need to print label and then take it to be posted? How does this work cost wise?

I need an idiots guide really as the online instructions aren't all that clear (to me anyway!)

The buyer pays for the postage. They choose the postage option when the buy and then you get sent a label to print and take to drop off. With yodel you don't even need to do that you just have a qr code to scan and it gets printed for you at the drop off point.
You can 'turn off' options for certain postage options if you like.
Cost wise it's fine as the buyer pays.

Paq · 05/03/2023 08:12

It's much easier than eBay. As PP said, pay attention to the postage options you want to offer if you want to avoid the need for a printer.

xyzandabc · 05/03/2023 08:14

You can choose which postage services you make available to your buyers. Royal mail, Yodel and Evri can all print the labels for you in the shop (Evri only started being able to print in shop this week, you did used to need a printer for them) and Inpost also do the labels for you. So printer is not essential.

You put the price you want paid and the buyer pays the postage. Vinted generate the postage label for you. Except for Royal mail, with RM you have to buy the postage label and then vinted reimburse you after the sale.

I find it so much simpler than eBay to navigate. Not had any issues as either a buyer or seller. And you can just list things and leave them there, no need to relist after X days or anything.

I sell quite a lot on Vinted - there's no need to print even with Evri now - yesterday they sent this message which might help?

I put off using Vinted for ages as thought it would be complicated and was used to eBay.

it is sooo easy.

The app is really easy and fast to list things. It’s free, unless you want to bump items or spotlight them which you don’t have to do.

As above posted have already said buyer pays postage as they check out (and what type of postage) you get a notification to download label (some you need printer for some you don’t) package it up and drop it off. All
super easy.

I’ve never had anyone say item isn’t right so not sure what happens there but have had two items just disappear and not turn up for a buyer and in that situation there are no disputes or is just marked as lost buyer is refunded and I am given what the item sold for.

the only thing I don’t like about it is you have to price things super cheap to sell. Which if you have lots to sell all adds up.

I sell and buy odd bits on Vinted and it is so much easier than Ebay. The buyer pays postage. You can print the label if you want, but Evri and Yodel print labels in the shop you post from.
I have never yet had an issue buying or selling.

SunshineAndFizz · 05/03/2023 08:42

How to Vinted make their money, do they take a % of your sale?

Pringleface · 05/03/2023 08:53

Thé Evri shops don’t always have the facility to print labels. Mine used to but their machine was removed by Evri and not replaced so it’s probably a good idea to check first.

Crunchymum · 05/03/2023 09:05

Thank you 😊

I may list a few bits and see how it goes. I need to check where my nearest Evri / Yodel shops are and if they print?

I guess I'd also need to invest in some packaging?

OP posts:
Paq · 05/03/2023 09:06

I bought some postage bags in Poundstretcher but can often reuse packaging from other purchases.

Pringleface · 05/03/2023 09:37

I got a load of bags from Amazon. I think it was 5.99 for 50 self seal bags of different sizes.

Mortified2023 · 05/03/2023 09:45

For packaging, I reuse any old jiffy bags, plastic posting bags or even any cardboard envelopes that Amazon packages come in. Just make sure to remove or cover any labels first.

If I have run out of these, I wrap the item in parcel paper or a large envelope, then tape a small bin liner around it. This is so it is weatherproof- I didn't do this at first & one buyer messaged me to inform me that although they had received & loved my item, the packaging (parcel paper) had completely disintegrated in the rain 😬

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/03/2023 10:23
  • Take lots of good quality photos.
  • Say what fabric the item is made of and/or take a photo of the washing instructions.
  • Take a photo of the size label. Vinted think size 12 is a large. For adult clothes suggest if it's true to size or bigger/smaller.
  • Most items up to 1kg can be sent as a small item. Don't select medium postage for one t-shirt.
  • I love a bundle of kids clothes. If you have lots of my kid's size, I'm likely to buy more than one item.
GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 05/03/2023 10:23

Can the buyer choose signed for postage?

Artemisty · 05/03/2023 12:58

Re packaging. I've had stuff turn up in bag for life's just taped up really securely. Also extra strong bin bags! It's fine you don't need anything special.

Pringleface · 05/03/2023 20:13

I usually only take two photos. One of the item hanging up and one of the label to show the make and size. If the item has an unusual pattern or feature I might take a photo of that to show it more clearly.

I also wash and iron all my items before I take a photo! It’s astonishing how many people put up a photo of something which looks like it’s been screwed up in a bag for two years.

Personally, I wouldn’t send stuff wrapped in a bin bag or a supermarket carrier bag because neither of those are intended for that purpose. The guy at the Evri shop has told me that some parcels are rejected for not being wrapped properly. It’s not expensive to buy a few parcel bags ffs.

Don't they make a profit from the postage? I understood that this was set up to increase parcel post

The buyer pays a fee on top of the purchase price (plus postage) - you get the full purchase price once the sale is complete. Only odd thing I have found is the sizing - if you choose 'M', Vinted will automatically say it's a 12 and you can't change that. So, as pp said, always take a photo of the size label to be clear what size it is.

twinteenwrangler · 05/03/2023 20:58

I have very recently got into Vinted and it's so easy! I have had to print a few labels but mostly been able to use QR or barcodes. I've found that people like to make offers so I'm now going high with my price (for really good condition/new items). I think the thing that makes it better than eBay is that because it's so quick and easy to list and post items that it's still worth selling things for small amounts, which add up.

However it's tempting to spend your balance on new things for yourself!
