A mildly odd question for water and squash drinkers

Do you think squash or water tastes different when drank from a stainless steel flask/tumbler/mug rather than a glass?

Yes, it’s much nicer from a glass. DP drinks water from a mug or a wine glass and they’re both wrong! I will concede that a metal insulated bottle is quite nice to drink from because the water is lovely and cold.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 03/03/2023 21:35

Definitely. Slightly metallic

Ciaonow · 03/03/2023 21:35

Oh definitely

Moonicorn · 03/03/2023 21:36

Yes slightly metallic. Squash or water best from a glass and tea or coffee from a China mug.

UsingChangeofName · 03/03/2023 21:38

Without a doubt.

ElfDragon · 03/03/2023 21:39

Yes, tastes totally different.

also tastes different in a mug.

glass is best, but I can put up with a mug if necessary. Can’t abide using a metal flask/bottle.

Clevs · 03/03/2023 21:46

Yes. Just like Coca Cola tastes different out of a can than a plastic bottle.

CatOnTheChair · 03/03/2023 21:48

Yes.
I HATE drinking from metal - cups or straws.

Yes I'm not keen on water from a glass but will drink it fine from a bottle, I don't really drink much squash to comment.

maddy68 · 03/03/2023 21:51

Yes. Very different

Yes it's better from a can.

I can live with thermos flasks, cups or glasses. Anything except plastic.

Pity coz the collapsible cups are very convenient.

whatausername · 03/03/2023 21:55

So all this is telling me that I definitely do not want a Klean Kanteen insulated tumbler for summer. I like cold drinks but shall have to stick to a glass and ice. Thanks!

Yes, definitely. I do use a plastic bottle though, the ones that you fill yourself and have a straw in and a centre that you can put sliced fruit or ice in.

I drink a lot of juice and I use one daily as I'm a clumsy sod so it's safer than a glass!

I have a metal (maybe tin?) mug DD bought for me and I can't have tea out of it because it tastes funny and I can't drink juice out of metal bottles.

blackheartsgirl · 03/03/2023 22:18

Yep totally different.

best out of a glass or a metal bottle (for me )

I also raise hot drinks from a tin mug. Not bad but nothing beats a proper mug but for camping purposes tin will have to do

BT11 · 03/03/2023 22:19

I hate squash in metal anything! Weird to drink

I have a "thing" about sports lids, the kind you can pop up and down. I like/love those. Plasticy rubbery straws and reusable plastic bottles give me the ick. As do plastic cups, especially reusable ones. Plastic one use bottles are ok - and for years I reused them for months until my dad kept telling me off about the chemicals leeching put of them.

Mugs are wrong, glasses are obviously the best but hard to keep water level reached when being busy all day (I'm meant to medically aim for over 3 litres a day)

Anyway long winded way to say I dont find water from a metal bottle tastes any different and it stays so delicious as I put it in from a large glass bottle (of tap water) stored in the fridge. I looked hard to find a metal bottle with a sports lid (I love these as it makes it easy to drink large volumes even if you feel a bit bokey - I think the water hits your throat at a different angle)

So my recommendation is Chilleys 500ml flask with a sports lid. I bought mine as a normal flask and added the lid as an extra as I wanted a nice design on mine, so i also have the option of a screw on lid and using it for hot drinks. DH just got their sports bottle.

I'm also going to take this opportunity to ramble in anger about how most squash now is made with no sugar and such tastes like shite and I no longer drink it. We should not be policed to the stage where we aren't allowed to make decisions over having lovely sugar in cordial rather than having it taken away totally. This is why I love my water bottle so much....I have nothing left to drink, and gin is a bit much 24/7

underneaththeash · 03/03/2023 23:36

Yes, but you can get glass sports bottles - with no sports cap.
