Hello,
Im from london and viewing a property tomorrow in city point. I like the property but am worried about the area. What’s your opinion on Citypoint and is it a good place to raise a family? Youngest is 6, eldest 12.
Im also worried that it’s not city point and is infact alvaston, which I’ve been told to avoid, so I’m a little confused.
What’s your thoughts, should I go for the property or wait it out for a better area?

There's nothing dangerous about Alvaston or pretty much any area in derby. There are areas which are better than others and areas that some people prefer over others.

What's your budget and perhaps we can give some guidance. Alvaston/Wilmorten wouldn't be my first choice but mainly because it's just housing. Nothing else there really. Some of the roads off London road are ok - linden drive and whatever the other one next to it is. Don't know much about city point particularly. It'll have its pros and cons as per any other area.

Linden drive is off elvaston lane and shardlow road. It's between the two. It's a nice road as I recall

I’m sure there are lots of lovely people Allenton and Alvaston way but it would be disingenuous to claim they aren’t areas of high deprivation.

Oakwood is nice, as is nearby Breadsall, Little Eaton, Darley abbey, Allestree (I’ve always found Allestree a bit … housey for want of a better word!) and Duffield. If you need to be in or around the city centre I’d say Darley Abbey / Duffield Road are your best bets.

Whoops yes linden drive but I actually meant Lincoln ave! Thanks for the correction PP!

High depravation in Allenton for sure however there are plenty of nicer areas in Alvaston. Comparing wilmorten with duffield road or duffield or Allestree is like comparing chalk and cheese.

An average 3 bed in wilmorten is at least 100k less than duffield road, if not more!

Noel Baker has made massive improvements for sure but it is still in an area of high deprivation and attainment is below average.

I wouldn’t but just because it’s your Aunt’s house. Move somewhere where your kids will go to good schools. I work in Derby and those places are rough.

Did you move to the city point development we are looking to move to Pacific way Altho don’t have children so schools not an issue.
